THURSDAY, DECEMBER 27, 1956 THE PILOT News and Personals from Vass Bessie Cameron Smilh, Representalive — Telephone Vass 2171 Class Party The Ladies’ Bible Class of the Vass Methodist Church School held a Christmas party in the fel lowship hall, which was decorated with a meinger scene and other decorations of the season. Miss Ethel Davis, class president, con ducted devotions. The entertainmenc committee, Mrs. Charles Gschwind, Mrs. Red- ga Thomas and Mrs. Edgar Mash- burn, directed several interesting games and a written contest in which Mrs. Albert Graham and Mrs. S. R. Smith tied for first place. Refreshments were served, and gifts were exchanged. Present, in addition to ‘those named, were: Mrs. H. A. Borst, Miss Bessie Cameron, Mrs. Lizzie Scott, Miss Kate Graham, Mrs. G. E. Griffin, Mrs. Dana Thomas, Mrs. Daniel Boggs, Mrs. J. S. Cad- dell, Mrs. A. G. Edwards, Sr., Mrs. Annie B. Gilliland, Mrs. J. M. Da vis, Miss Eva Graham, Mrs. W. D. Matthews, and Mrs. C. L. Tyson. Glee Club The Vass-Lakeview High School Glee Club, organized a month and a half ago with Roger Gibbs of Southern Pinas as director, made its first appearance before the school last Friday at ■ 10 a.m. to present a program of Christmas music. To say that it was a happy occasion for students and others who have the good of the school at heart is expressing it mildly. S6me 50 young people—almost as many, boys aS girls—did four- part singing, and the boys, who had had little or no previous ex perience in singing tenor and bass, showed" that they were making a fine st^t. Mr. Gibbs commented on the good material he has to work with and the fine coopera tion being given by the boys and girls. Supt. John McCrhmmen asked all the elementary pupils who were interested in joining a jun ior glee club to remain in the au ditorium at the close of the pro gram, and a group of more than 70 did so. Mrs. W. E. Gladstone served as accompanist for the glee club. Christmas Parties Various rooms at the school held Christmas parties on Friday afternoon with gift exchanges, and youthful spirits were high as the kiddies got out for the holidays. They will return to school next Wednesday. Mrs. N. A. McGill gave a party in Miss Bessie Cameron’s second grade before the holidays, honor ing her son Richard’s eighth birth day. She served ice cream and decorated cake and presented par ty favors to the three dozen chil dren. Class Party Mrs. N. N. McLean’s class of young adults of the Presbyterian Sunday School held a party in the community house Thursday night. Mrs. Herbert Price and Mrs. Bob Edwards were in charge of games and contests. Mrs. Donald Jessup was a contest winner. The young people exchanged gifts from a lighted tree and Mrs. McLean had a grab bag for themj They presented her a gift. Mrs. Howard Gschwind, Mrs. Walter Boggs and Mrs. Herbert Caddell were in charge of refreshments, which were served from a beauti fully arranged table. Around 20 attended. Sing Carols Local Girl Scouts with their leaders went carohng Thursday night before Christmas. Later they were served refreshments at the Methodist Church by Mrs. A. G. Edwards, Jr., Mrs. A. M. Calla han, Mrs. Charles Von Metzger and Mrs. Ed Callahan. Play Santa A group of Methodist young people met at the church last Sim- day at 6 p.m. to get packages of “Christmas cheer” which they had previously fixed, and delivered them to a number of people. 'They remembered their adult workers and pastor with gifts Sunday morning. The MYF has planned a New Year’s Eve party for 7:30 Monday night. Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Mann ar rived from Washington, D. C., on Saturday to stay until Tuesday with her parents, the C. L. Tysons, and they had their special holiday dinner on Sunday with Mr. 'Ty son’s sister and brother-in-law, the L. C. Wallaces of Carthage, as additional guests. 'The Rev. Angus McK. Cameron, his wife and son, Stephen, came Tuesday to visit the A. M. Cam erons until Saturday, when they will return to Lake Landing. Mrs. P. B. Irby and children, who are staying with her parents, the Camerons, while Major Irby is do ing a tour of overseas duty, re mained through Christmas and went to Raleigh later in the week to visit Irby relatives. At the W. F. Smiths they had a gathering of the children and grandchildren on Christmas day. Joining the parents and Jerry and Paul of the home were the Ted Waddells and their four children and the James Yows and their two, aU of Albemarle, the Paul Garners and children of Carthage, Route 3, Mrs. Eugene Hardy and four children of Cameron, Route 1, and the A. M. Callahan family of five from Vass. Mrs. Alien; Thompson and chil dren who were here from Cross- nore called on the Smiths Tuesday afternoon. The H. A. Borsts had as dinner guests on Wednesday his sisters, Mrs. W. G. Parker and Miss Annie Borst of Cameron, also his niece and family, Mr. and Mrs. Marion Hinson and Margaret Ann of Fu- quay. The Gschwind family held a Christmas dinner at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Gschwind and son Mike Tuesday. Mrs. W. P. Parker of Laurinburg, Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Gschwind and daughters of Aberdeen, and Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Gschwind were present. Mrs. W. B. Graham had her whole family together Christmas day and the out-of-towners re mained overnight. Joining her and the W. A. Muses were Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Graham, Lynn and Kathy, of Walterboro, S. C., Mr. and Mrs. Bernice Graham and their three children of Graham, and Mr. and Mrs. Albert Graham of yass. Personals Mrs. W. H. Keith and Miss Bes sie Cameron were guests of the former’s son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Perry, at Wake Forest from Monday until Wed nesday. The Linwood Keith fam ily of Sanford joined them for Christmas day. Mrs. R. G. Rosser and Mrs. P. A. Wilson spent Christmas in Char lotte, Mrs. Rosser visiting her son John and his family and Mrs. Wil son spending the time with her sister-in-law and family. Mr. and Mrs. Julian Leslie of Greensboro spent Tuesday night with his mother, Mrs. W. C. Les lie, and family, and called on his aunt, Mrs. W. B. Graham, and her family. Julian is remaining at home the rest of the week. Mr. and Mrs. Russell Bullock and daughter, Marjorie Leslie, and Mr. and Mrs. Lane Bullock and family had djnner Christmas eve ning at the home of Mr. and Mrs. C. D. Painter at Fuquay, where Mrs. O. M. Bullock of Vass, their mother, is sepnding some tirne. The Rev. and Mrs. Archie Mc Nair smd family of Atlanta, Ga., are spending a few days with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. L. Mc Nair. Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Muse vis ited in Rockingham and Hamlet Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. James Key and daughter, Betty, had supper with Mr. and Mrs. E. J. 'Thomas near Lemon Springs 'Tuesday. Annual Parly Angus Mills entertained em ployees at the annual Christmas dinner party at Dixie Inn l^t Friday evening, with around 45 in attendance. Mr. and Mrs. Max well Forrest and Mr. and Mrs. Norman Epler served as hosts. A turkey dinner was served. After dinner, bingo was played, with hams and boxes of candy as prizes. A special gift presented each year is a crocheted bag made by Mr. Forrest’s aunt in Philadel phia, and Mrs. James Key was the lucky winner of this.
