$1,000 bond on auto larceny
charges.
The youth, Ray Baldwin, was
captured Saturday night by
Southern Pnies policemen as he
was driving a 1956 automobile
from the Phillips Motor Company.
The youth, according to Sgt. Ger
ald Wright and Patrolman Robert
Yontsfhad opened the doors of the
garage from the inside and, with
out turning on the lights of the
car, had started driving out.
The two policemen, on routine
duty checking business establish
ments, were there when Baldwin
drove out. The youth jumped
from the car and ran but was
caught as he scrambled into a
ditch.
Chief C. E. Newton said the
youth was also wanted here for
questioning in connection with the
theft of Army pistols from the
home of Brig. Gen. Pearson Meno-
her in Knollwood.
On a previous escape from
Marston, Baldwin had obtained a
job working in Gen. Menoher’s
yard. Police had picked him up
and returned him to the training
schooL Later, the pistols were
found to be inissing from Gen.
Menoher’s garage.
When questioned after being
captured this weekend, Baldwin
said he had been to New York
after escaping. In the pieantime,
police said, he had turned 16 and
was thus ineligible to retxuti to
the scbooL He was placed in jail
after waiving a preliminary hear
ing on the auto larceny charge.
His 14-year old brother, from
Aberdeen, was waiting for him at
the door of the garage, police said,
and was captured and turned over
to juvenile authorities.
