CAROLINA
Continuing through this Thurs-
day-Saturday is the romantic
comedy in Technicolor, “The
Light Touch,” starring Jack Haw
kins and Margaret Johnston with
John Fraser and June Thorborn.
We invite you to meet the most
courageous man of the year. He
told off his boss; intimidated his
in-laws; brow-beat his wife; need
led his neighbors and almost got
away with it.
The New York Times says it is
funny-touching-warm and natural
comedy.”
Coming Sunday through Wed
nesday, Dec. 30-Jan. 2, is the re
issue of the famous production,
“Rebecca.”
When this Academy Award
winning screen adaptation of the
famous novel by Daphne Du Mau-
rier was first reviewed on March
i23, 1940, David O. Selznick was
I credited with again scoring “an
I impressive masterpiece expertly
acted and directed that should
prove a natural for class houses.”
For those who have read the
Daphne Du Maurier novel, the
picture will completely fulfill
their expectations. By others it
will be welcomed as an intensely
dramatic and emotionally, effec
tive film.
There are superb performances
by Joan Fontaine, Laurence Oli
vier, Judith Anderson, George
Sanders, Reginald Denny and
Florence Bates. With the sole ex
ception of “Gone With the Wind,”
Selznick has never brought a finer
production to the screen, and one
of its outstanding features is Al
fred Hitchcock’s direction, a not
able job in every respect.
This important production is
now being re-released notionally
with the second “premiere” (the
original world debut was held
March 28, 1940, at Radio City
Music Hall) taking place at the
Columbia Theatre, Washington. It
is truly a thriller and stiU ranks as
one of Hitchcock’s best suspense
masterpieces.
As the running time is 130 min
utes, there will be but two Sunday
shows, at 3 p.m., and 8:15 p.m.
Starting Thurhday, Jan. 3, at
8:15 is th eretum to the Sandhills
of “Bus Stop,” starring Marilyn
Monroe and Don Murray with Ar
thur O’Connell, Eileen Heckert
and Betty Field.
SUNRISE

“Written on the Wind,” a super
charged emotional drama from
Universal-International, filmed in

at the Sunrise theatre.
The cast toppers are Rock Hud
son, Ladren Bacall, Robert Stack
and Dorothy Malone. Important
supporting roles are played by
Robert Keith, Grant Williams, Ed
ward C. Platt and John Larch.
The director was Douglas Sirk,
the man who first brought out the
great potential of Hudson when he
directed Rock in “Magnificent Ob
session.” The screenplay, by
