Y THURSDAY, JANUARY 10, 1957 ■> ' I '■!*; " "1 Ill— THE PILOT- -Southern Pines, North Carolina PAGE "A” Rotary Hears Red Cross Procedure For Disaster Aid PINEBLUFF NEWS By MRS. EHRMAN PICKLER Methodist Circles Meet Twelve members and two visi tors were present when Circle 1 met Wednesday afternoon with Mrs. J. R. Iiampley. Mrs. M. F. The immediate task of the _ , ., , j.-,. -u ■ African Red a«e, a d.s-; “"SrS" SVxpSS aster is to provide food, shelter ,, „ „ ^ ’ the program on and clothing for the victims. Later, a program of rehabilitation is initiated and carried through with the eventual aim of re establishing citizens as they were before the disaster. These, and othaif interesting facts, were told members of the Southern Pines Rotary Club by Lynn Warren, district manager of field services for 18 counties, including Moore. Warren, who was actively en gaged' in disaster relief services during the California floods last 'year, said that disaster relief was only one of many services provi ded by the Red Cross, but that it was one of the most important. A disaster relief area is de clared, he pointed out, when a catastrophe happens to five or more families. When less families than that are effected, the Red Cross feels it is a local problem and a community project for re habilitation. He said that under the rehabil itation program people were asked to fill out forms listing what they needed. A caseworker is then assigned and tries. “The New Year.” The hostess, assisted by her daughter, Mrs. R. G. McCaskill, served refreshments at the close of the meeting. Circle 2 met St the parsonage on Wednesday evening with 16 Inembers answering roll call. Mrs. W. R. Griffin heard reports and Mrs. James W. Teal had the pro gram on “The New Year.” Mrs. Betty Hammond assisted the hostess in serving a congealed salad, crackers and coffee. Brief Mention Pvt. and Mrs. Marion Sessoms ail due haste, to provide the fam ily with approximately the same as they had before but within limits. When a family is rehabilitated, he pointed out, there is no re payment required. The Rotarians spent some time discussing the upcoming district convention of the 281st district of Rotary International, sched uled for Pinehurst next month. Guests at the meeting were Woody Fussell of Bladenboro, Ted Haigler, Sanford, and C. J. with Vandervoort of Hancock, N. Y. STATEMENT SOUTHERN FIRE INSURANCE COMPANY Durham, N. C.
