Blue of Vass, which takes place at 7 p. m. on Sunday, February 24, at the Vaiss Baptist Church. Woman's Club The Vass Woman’s Club will meet at 7:30 p. m. Friday, Feb ruary 8, at the home of Mrs. Paul Jones, with Mrs. Jack Mor gan as co-hostess. Mrs. W. A. Muse of the Education Depart ment is in charge of the program and she has secured Mrs. William 3. Graham, Jr., of Southern Pines as speaker. Birthday Party Honoring her son Mike on his eighth birthday, Mrs. Ray Grif fin entertained a number of his young friends at a party at the Griffin home Wednesday after noon of last week. The valentine motif was used in decorations and refreshments. The birthday cake was heart- shaped and decorated in red and white and there were valentine (cupcakes, each topped with a candle, and ice cream. Baskets, each containing caftdy and a val entine, were given as favors. Mike’s guests were Marjorie Leslie Bullock, Ann Thomas, Ka ren and Cathy Wolfe, Barbara Parker, Barbara Thomas, Carol Parker, Grace Wilson, Jimmy McRae, Kent McGill, Larry Mat thews, Philip Keith, Grover Henning, Paul McNeill Burns, Walter Trogden, Wallace Hutch inson, and Chip Irby, with Mike’s older brother. Recrealion Program In an effort to meet the need for wholesome recreation for dhildren and young people, the Baptist Church is planning to hold weekly recreational meet ings, starting this Saturday night w/ith a Family Night meeting for the entire church. The tentative plan calls for games for the 8 to 12-year group and for those 12 to 17 years of age, with super vised, rather than directed, play. Finch, who was injured in an au tomobile accident Saturday, and for Mrs. Frank Jeffreys, who is ill in High Point, both members of the Vass Methodist Church, and for their families was con ducted by the pastor, the Rev. James Eskridge, at the morning service Sunday. With The Sick Mrs. Frank Jeffreys, who -had been at the home of her daugh ter, Mrs. Garnet Fallenstine, in High Point for about two weeks because of illness, became much worse Saturday and was taken to a hospital there, where she was immediately placed under an oxygen tent. Her sister, Mrs. W. P. Parker, of Laurinburg, and Mrs. Charlie Gschwind and Mrs. Howard Gschwind went to High Point Sunday, the family having been notified Satxirday night of Mrs. Jeffreys’ condition. She seemed, a little better Sunday. They were alltowed to see her for a brief time. Harry Laubscher, son of Mrs. Jeffreys, who has been at Duke Hospital in Durham for "several weeks following major surgery, was scheduled to return to his home in Sanford last week, but a backset is keeping him longer. Visitors who saw him Sunday re port that he was to undergo sur gery again on ’Tuesday. His mother-in-law, Mrs. Bright McRae, and sisters-in-law, Mrs. Max Edwards and Mrs. Pete McRae, spent Saturday with Mr. Laubscher. Going to see him Sunday were Mr. and Mrs. J. A. McRae and son, also Pete McRae, Jimmy McRae, Willie Hilliard and Henry Borst. Mrs. W. H. Keith continues to improve from her recent illness of influenza. Her sons Vick and Linwood and their families were down from Sanford Sunday afternoon to visit her. Personal^ Mrs. D. C. Beal and Pamela Buie spent 'Thursday in Sanford with Mrs. Gilbert Womack. Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Graham and Miss Janice Graham of Asheboro attended the Vass Methodist Church service Sun day morning. Mrs. George Stutts spent the weekend in Sanford visiting her daughter, Mrs. H. E. Womble. Mrs. Annie Shankle and Mrs. Bernice Turner, who had been visiting in the home of the Jack Morgans, have returned to An- fconville. Mr. and Mrs. Bobby CuUer of Southern Pines were Sunday supper guests of Mrs. Bright Mc Rae. C. L. 'Tyson returned last Sat urday from a week’s trip to New York, where he was purchasing merchandise for the Aberdeen Collins store, of which he is man ager. Sunday evening guests of Mr. and Mrs. C. P. McMillan were his brother and family, Mr. and Mrs. J. L. McMillan and Joyce McMil lan, of Selma. Sunday evening dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. D. H. McGill were Airman lie and Mrs. W. R. McGill and children and Mrs. P. A. Wilson. Mrs. W. D. McCraney is spend ing some time in Hamlet with her daughter, Mrs. A. M. Hemp hill, and family. Mr. Hemphill was scheduled to undergo sur gery this week. Mr. and Mrs. D. C. Beal and family visited friends near Mon cure Sunday. WATCH IT! Distributors Of Appliances Meet With CP&L Group Twenty-one representatives of ‘electrical appliance distributors for North and South Carolina heard the 1957 sales plans of Car olina Power and Light Co., dur ing a meeting at the Mid Pines Club Friday. Attended by 47 distributor and CPL representatives, the meet-: ing was arranged by two South ern Pines men, John Howarth, division sales manager, and Paul Butler, sales coordinator, both with the power company’s Cen tral Division sales office. The Friday meeting was the fourth annual meeting of dis tributors and CP&L salesmen to ,be held in Southern Pines. An other meeting will be held here February 22 for appliance deal ers in the 10 counties in CP&L’s Central Division. About 300 deal er representatives are expected to attend.
