4-H Club Ai Eagle
Springs Donates Flag
A flag, presented in memory of
Howard Jordan, has been given
the Eagle Springs school by mem
bers of Mrs. Jordan’s fifth and
sixth grade 4-H girls and boys.
The presentation was made at a
recent meeting of he PTA of the
school. ' ’
Last Tuesday the members of
the 4-H club there Eissembled
around the new flagpole for the
raising ceremony, with Roger
Thompson, president, and Darrell
Cole in charge.
Approximately 600,000 acres of
tobacco are grown in North Caro
lina each year.

Dies In N. Jersey
Mrs. Russell J. Lorenson and
Mrs. Nathan H. Adams have re
turned from Atlantic City, N. J.,
where they attended the fun
eral of their brother, Charles
Wicker, who died Tuesday night
of last week after a short illness.
Mr.^’Wicker, who made his home
here until he moved to Philadel
phia some 30 years ago, had been
living in Atlantic City for the past
few years.
Funeral services ■ were held
Saturday morning and* burial
v/as held in Valley Forge.
In addition to his two sisters, he
is survived by two brothers,
Carleton and Leith Wicker, and
a sister, Molella.

Speak At Farm
Bureau Meeting
Sam Dobson, pasture specialist
of the North Carohna State Col
lege Extension Division, will be
principal speaker at the regular
meeting of the Moore County
Farm Bureau Monday, according
to T. Clyde Auman of West End,
presiaent.
Dobson, an outstanding author
ity ori methods of increasing pas
ture yield and building new pas
ture lands, will also answer spe
cific questions at the end of his
talk. Farmers and others who
have been seeking methods of im
proving pasture lands are urged
to attend the meeting.
The annual meeting of the
Moore County Breeders Co-op
will be held along with the pas
ture meeting. Three new direc
tors will be selected and a finan
cial and progress report will be
given.
The North Carolina Agricultu
ral Experiment station has de
veloped a new breed of sheep,
the PoUed Dorset. This new
breed is one of the most likely
prospects for commercial lamb
production in the South.
Music Program ^
Slated For PTA
Session Tonight
A program of varied music,
featuring students in the third
through the eighth grades, and
the junior high school glee club,
will be presented at the regular
Parent - Teachers Association
meeting tonight (Thursday) at 8
p. m. in Weaver Auditorium.
The program has been pre
pared by Miss Mary Logan and
Roger Gibbs, members of the
faculty at the school.
Dr. Charles Phillips, president
of the PTA, said that nomina
tions to fill the vacant treasurer’s
post would be taken at the busi
ness session. The , vacancy was
caused by the resignation of
Ralph Chandler, Jr., who was
forced to resign recently because
of pressurfe of business.
