Spring is set as the opening date. 'The home office of the plant is Athens, Ga.., and the Robbins plant will em ploy 200 people^ with the possi bility of working three shifts with a total employment of 600. The new building is located north of Robbins just inside the city limits on land purchased from Mrs. Catherine Shields by the Robbins Development Cor poration. New Dam Project The Town of Robbins has be gun work on a new dam just west of the town on Bear Creek, which will greatly increase the town water supply. When completed the dam will assure the town of an adequate water supply for a period of as long as three months without any new intake. Haying experienced a water shortage at times during the past years the townspeople welcome this im provement. East-West All Star Tournament On March 16 the Town of Rob bins will play host to the East- West All-Star tournament. As first move in an all-out ef fort to make the visitors comfor table and welcome. Mayor Way- land Kennedy and the Town Board have declared the week of March 1 through March 9 as “Clean-Up and Paint Up Week” in order to have the town looking its best. Robbins Woman's Club Meets The February meeting of the Robbins Woman’s Club was held at the club house on Wednesday afternoon, February 13, with the following hostesses: Mrs. Coy Lewis, Mrs. Marvin Ritter, Mrs. Branson Wliliams and Mrs. Wor thy Brown. . The afternoon speaker was Miss Catherine Creasman, of Sanford, who spoke on Girl Scouting and showed a movie related to scout ing. The local Girl Scouts pre sented a musical program. Refreshments were served by the hostesses, following the meet ing, which included the regular business session. Robbins OES Chapter 283 Meets On Monday night the regular meeting of the Robbins Eastern Star was held in the chapter room. Mrs. Ethel Trotter, Worthy Matron, presided. During the business session, Mrs. Myrtle Ritter was installed as Warder to replace Miss Addie Littlefield, who has moved to Tryon. Mrs. Brownie Chappell of Southern Pines, District Deputy Grand Matron, had charge of the installation service. Robbins Lions Club Meets The Robbins Lions Club met Wednesday night at a supper meeting held at Tim’s Restaurant with the Rev. W. O. Nelson, pres ident, in charge. Chief action tak en was the decision to sponsor the Midget Baseball League again this ye»r, and to go all out in promot ing the White Cane drive. P Boy Scouting Two new den mothers have been appointed in Robbins and Cub Scouting is being reorganized under their supervision. Mrs. Coy Lewis, Jr., and Mrs. Frank Trotter received the appointments and will have Mr. Lewis and Mr. Cecil Hackney, principal of the high school serve with them as Cub Master and Assistant Cub Master. Improvements Are Noted In Highway Work By Loekey Completion of several road pro jects, which give a new look to much of the area between South ern Pines and Aberdeen, was an nounced this week by Commis sioner Forrest Loekey of the 8th Highway Division. Several sections of existing roads were resurfaced with sand asphalt, including old US 1, which is 22 feet wide^ from NC 211 to a point .8 mile away near the new US 1; Saunders Ave., 20 feet wide, from old US 1 to NC 211, a dis tance of .9 mile; and NC 211, 24 feet wide, from US 1 to old US 1 in Aberdeen, only .1 mile. A new 22 foot road, running from US 1 at the south end of the Southern Pines bypass to Bethes- da road at Powell’s Pond has re ceived a soil-type base course and has been paved with sand asphalt.' That particular area has come in for much work recently, as a Charlotte firm also completed a new 165 foot long bridge over the Seaboard Airline Railway on a county road nearby, between US 1 and Bethesda Road at Powell’s Pond. Construction of the new high way took a fairly large amount of traffic out of the Southern Pines Country Club. Miss Flora McDonald, said today. Mrs. Callie Hardwicke, house furnishing specialist of the State College Extension Service, will give the demonstration, which win be on handmade articles for the home.
