THURSDAY, MARCH 7, 1957 THE PILOT—Soulhern Pines, North Carolina Local Girl Enlists In WAVES Betty Jean Blackmon, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ira Blackmon of Southern Pines, recently enlisted in the U. S. Navy (WAVES) through the recruiting office in Raleigh. She is taking her recruit train ing at Bainbridge, Md., along with 70 other young women from throughout the United States. Hoping for selection to take hos pital training, she first must go through basic training. Later, if selected, she will be Stationed at Bainbridge and will later receive an assignment at one of the naval hospitals. A 1956 graduate of Southern Pines High School, she was active in the dramatic and glee clubs and later attended Pfeiffer College in Misenheimer. Mrs. Reynolds passed away at SL Joseph’s Hospital on Monday following a short illness. Services were held here at Clark’s Fimeral Chapel Tuesday afternoon, con ducted by the Rey. C. Parker Thomas, pastor of the Bible Tab ernacle, and the Rev. C. K Ligon, pastor of Brownson Mem orial Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Robert Dyer, daughter of Mrs. Reynolds, Livera and Rob ert Dyer went to Jersey Shore for the rites and remained over the weekend with Mrs. Dyer’s sis ter, Mrs. Olive Miller, returning to Southern Pines Monday.
