D. Allen, farm agent. The insect, discovered last week by George D. Jones, ento- jmologist at State College, is ca pable of completely destroying an entire alfalfa field. Allen said the best method of detecting them was to pull off a few plants, place them on a white ^det of papa:, stir them well, and see if there are smaill white or green worms with black heads. If the worm is found, he sedd, farmers should spray their fields with heptachlor poison, at the rate of one-fourth pound per acre.
