Reid W. Pleasants
Of Carthage Dies
After Long Illness
Reid Whitford Pleasants, 78, of
Carthage, died early Monday
morning in MoorO County Hospi
tal after a long illness. He was
the father of James M. Pleasants
of Southern Pines, a member of
the Moore County Board of
County Commissioners.
Mr. Pleasants, a native of
Aberdeen, moved to Carthage
early in life and went into the
drug business. He later sold his
store and became engaged in
farming.
He was married twice, first to
Miss Ollie Mclver, daughter of
the late Superior Court Judge J.
D. Mclver of Carthage, and, fol
lowing her death, to Miss Sadie
Gardner of Carthage, who sur
vives.
Other survivors are one son,
James Pleasants of Southern
Pines, two grandsons; three sis
ters, Miss Lillian Pleasants and
Mrs. E. P. Capps of Aberdeen
and Mrs. C. J. Ellis of Orlando,
Fla.; and two brothers, G. W.
Pleasants, High Point, and Her
man Pleasants of Atlanta'.^ ^
Funeral services were held
Tuesday afternoon at the Car
thage Presb3rterian Church, of
which he was a member and
deacon for many years prior to
his death. Officiating were the
former pastor, Dr, W. S. Golden,
assisted by the^ Rev. C. K. Taffe
of Cameron and the Rev. Carl
Johnson of Page Memorial
Church in Aberdeen.
Burial was in Cross Hill Ceme
tery, Carthage.

Va., Wednesday afternoon.
