But it would have to be done by one who has lived it and seen it aU.” Marquand, who introduced President Nathan Pusey of Har vard to the alumni meeting, is working on a novel about a play wright and his marital difficul ties. Dogs To Be Given New Three-Year Type Vaccine Here jFor the first time this year, dogs in Moore County will re ceive rabies shots that provide immunity for three years rather than the usual one. The Coimty Commissioners voted for the new method^ al ready proven successful in 'sev eral other counties in the state, earlier this week. Dr. C. C. McLean, veterinarian, said the new vaccine is much more efficient than the old type. “It has relatively no ill effects on dogs, though small dogs some times have a sore leg for 24 hours after the vaccination,” he said. “The vaccine has been tried and found successful in various areas of the state for several years now,” he added, “and is more effective than the old type.” The new vaccine is given in the thigh muscle, rather than in the neck as formerly. If the vac cine is given to a dog under siit-- months of age, that dog must be vaccinated again the following year. Owners of dogs receiving the 1957 vaccinations will be given a blue tag and a certificate. The tag is so constructed that it can be riveted to the dog’s collar, a procedure the dog warden, Hardy Barber, recommnds. “A tag like the old ones, the type ftiat hangs from the collar, probably will not last three years,” he said. The vaccination program will continue on an annual basis so that newly acquired dogs can be vaccinated each year. And, though the new vaccine is more costly than the old type, the price on public clinics will remain the. same, one dollar per year. Pri vately administered, however, the price will be two dollars. Every dog in the coimty is re quired to have two tags—one a coimty license showing the dog has been listed for taxes, which is given at the time the dog is list ed, and the rabies tag. Dogs over four months of age are required to be vaccinated. Dog owners have been urged to have the new blue tags riveted to the dog’s collar so that proof of his vaccination is apparent if the dog is picked up by the dog warden. A complete schedule of vaccin ation clinics was published in The Pilot last week.
