McMillan News and Personals from Vass Bessie Cameron Smith, RepresealaliTe — Telephone Vass 2171 To Build Parsonage At a congregational meeting immediately following the reg ular worship service at the Vass Methodist Church last Sunday morning, the group voted to build a parsonage. The church is to have a full time resident pas tor at the beginning of the new church year July 1st, and the de cision to build immediately was made in order to have a place ready for him. D. H. Williams, chairman of the Official Board presided, and he and A. M. Cameron, chairman of an investigation conoinittee, presented the committee’s find ings and recommendations to the congregation. A house plan which the committee recommended was also approved. Mr. Williams announced that the A. Cameron Estate had offer ed to donate either of two lots near the church as a parsonage site, one between the D. F. Cam eron home and the Clyde Cox property, the other a lot next to the home of Mrs. G. W. Brooks, the third lot from the church on the same street. The latter was the one favored. The following were elected as a building committee, upon nom inations from the floor: A M. Cameron, chairman; J. M. Davis, Redga Thomas, James E. Hudson and Mrs. S. R. Smith. A systematic plan for payment was made when- the project was undertaken, and it wai so successfully completed that officials feel that the new project, so necessary to the growth of the church, can also be attained. * Town Caucus At Monday night’s town caucus held at the community house, with Mayor A G. Edwards, Jr., presiding, and Town Clerk Irene Mullinix serving as secretary, Hugh McLean £ind Roby Futrell were nominated for mayor, and 15 names were put up for com missioner. Nominated for commissioner were: A. G. Edwards, Jr., Jack Morgan, James E. Hudson, Ray Griffin, J. A. McRae, Henry Borst, C. P. McMillan, A. G. Ed wards, Sr., D. H. McGill, A. M. Cameron, Horace Mullinix, Ed Boggs, Edgar Mashbum, Preston Boggs, and Pete Mashbum. Some of these have already in dicated that they do not plan to qualify. Honors Daughter Honoring her daughter, Re gina, Mrs. Hubert Cox gave a party in Mrs. W. A. Muse’s third grade classroom at Vass-Lake- view School Tuesday afternoon. Regina and 30 of her 36 class mates were present to enjoy the ice cream, cookies and lollipops which Mrs. Cox served, assisted by Mrs. Bill Caddell and Mrs. Muse. Variety Show A group from Central Prison in Raleigh wiU present a variety show in the school auditorium at 7:30 on Saturday, April 6, spon sored by the Vass Lions Club. Revival Closes A series of revival services at the Pilgrim Tabernacle, in which the pastor, the Rev. H. R. Helms, was assisted by the Rev. C. G. Mitchum of Monroe, closed Sat urday night. The services were marked by strong, impressive sermons, good attendance and much interest. Plane Spoiling A Ground Observer alert in Vass was in effect from 8 a. m. until 7 p. m. Monday. Mrs. Ina Bailey and Billy Frye assisted A. R. Laubscher and Mrs. Horace Mullinix of the town staff in spotting planes. Presbyterian Women Meet Vass Presbyterian Women of the Church held their monthly general meeting at the church on Wednesday night of last week with the president, Mrs. J. A. Hudson, presiding. Mrs. Herbert Price gave the Scripture reading and the pastor, the Rev. A C. Trivette, sptoke on World Mis sions, for which an offering was made later. Mrs. Hudson and Mrs. Price served refreshments. TV Party Mr. and Mrs. A. G. Edwards, Jr., Mr. and Mrs. Cortis Thomas and Mr. and Mrs. "TBob Edwards were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Morgan at a spaghetti supper at their home Saturday night, and the group watched the exciting basketball finals in which UNC was winner.
