Three Children In
One Car Killed
South of Aberdeen
Three children were killed
about 10 miles south of Aberdeen
Sunday night when the car in
which they were riding was
struck by a tractor-trailer from
Durham. '
The parents of the children,
Mr. and Mrs. David M. Singley
of Maxton, were injured but not
seriously. Mr. Singley is super
intendent of schools in Maxton.
They were driving on 15-501
about 10 miles south of Aberdeen
when the truck attempted to
pass them on a hill. Mr. Singley,
according to the State Highway
Patrol, was about to make a left
hand turn when the truck crash
ed into tha car. Both vehicles
burned.
The children were Louisa Ann,
8, David, Jr., 6, and Michael, two
and one-half. Funeral services |
were held Tuesday in Maxton.
The truclji was driven by Lin-
wood Gordie Cook, 20. He was
released fromi Scotland County I
jail imder bond of $1,000 on man
slaughter charges. He and a com
panion, identified as Charles
Butler, were not seriously hurt.
