Prices 1,800 ACRES NEAR PINEHURST Pinewild, Former Home of Charles Crocker, Sold To Frederick Taylor One of the largest real estate transactions of the year in this strea has been completed by Bid dle & Company of Pinehurst, it was learned last week. The company announced the 1,800 acre Linden Road (Pine hurst) estate of the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles T. Crocker had been sold to Mr. and Mrs. Fred erick L. Taylor of Pinehurst. The attractive log house, “Kennelwood,” and a large tract of land within the Pinewild res idential area have been retained by Gen. W. E. Cowgill. 'The gen eral and his wife, the former Dorothea ■ Crocker, resided there when he was managing the ex tensive peach orchards on the property. He also, at the same known as Pinehurst Silk Mills at what is now Robbins, a business that later became Bobbins Mills and, still later, Amerotron, Inc. Mr. and Mrs. Crocl^er, who were winter residents of Pine hurst, assisted in the building of the Pipehurst Village Chapel, Emmanuel Church here and Moore County Hospital. Mrs. Crocker and Mrs. Cowgill help ed organize the Sandhills Wom en’s Exchange, Mr. Ciocker was an ardent horseman and an original mem ber of the Moore Coimty Hoimds, of which James and Jackson Boyd were joint masters. For years- he served as field master and turned his lands over at time, had launched the business least once each season for a hunt. Mr. and Taylor have been Pinehmst residents for several years and presently are living in “Tlie Castle,” the former Percy Thompson house. Mr. Taylor has wide lumbering, manufactiuing and other interests in North C!ar- olina, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. He originally is from Vass. Another sale just completed is of the Hugh Forman home on Midland Road to Mr. and Mrs. Robert C. Fisher of Jamestown, N. Y. Resort Realty and Devel opment Company of Southern Pines handled the transaction. Expert To Lecture Here This Weekend On Home Lighting Mary Webber, prominent lec turer on home lighting and re lated interests, will be principal speaker at a meeting of the Tar Heel section of the Illuminating Engineering Society Friday night at the Southern Pines Country Club. Paul Butler, of the Carolma Power & Light Company, who is locally in charge of the program, said Miss Webber has written a number of papers and books on home lighting. She has been a prominent figure on committees of the I.E.S., and has lectured throughout the coimtry. She is presently connected with General Electric Co. Miss Webber’s talk will be pre ceded by dinner and a social hour.
