Brady Brooks Is
New President Of
Pinebluff Lions
-Brady Brooks, an insurance
representative and former con
tract carrier in the Sandhills for
the Greensboro Daily News has
been elected president of the
Pinebluff Lions Club.
Other new officers, whose
terms start June 1, are Thomas
Kittredge, vice-president; J. D.
Ives, secretary-treasurer; J.
Douglas David, lion tcuner; Theo
Berg, tail twister; Paul Trout
man and C. C. Thompson, two-
year directors; E. H. Mills and
Stanley Honour, one-year di
rectors; Stanley Honour, two-
year trustee; and J. D. Ives, one-
year trustee.
The club will continue to meet
the second and fourth Fridays of
each month at 7:30 at the Meth
odist Church recreation room.

Lula Tyner. 67
Mrs. Lula McDougald Tyner,
67, died Monday morning at the
home of her daughter, Mrs. J. P.
Hall on Route 1, Carthage.
She is survived by four daugh
ters, Mrs. Hall, Mrs. C. M, Sud-
dreth, Mrs. L. K. Kinlaw and
Mrs. C T. Frye, all of Route 1,
Carthage; two sons, C. W. Tyner
and C. A. Tyner, both of Carth
age, Route 1; two half-sisters,
one half brother; thirty grand
children; and seven great grand
children.
Funeral services were held
Tuesday afternoon at Summer
Hill Baptist Church. Burial fol
lowed fai the church cemetery.

Postmaster A. Garland Pierce
today urged residents of South
ern Pines to report promptly to
the post office any instances of
medical frauds involving use of
the mails, or offensive advertis
ing njaterial involving apparent
medical quackery that enters
their homes.
Pierce said his suggestion was
promipted by newest reports he
has received from Postmaster
General Arthur E. Summerfield
and Chief Inspector David H.
Stephens that use of the mails
for medical quackery is at an all-
time high.
The local post office. Pierce
dsplained, under instructions
from the Postal Inspection de
vice, turns complaints of medical
fraud, as well as aU other com
plaints of other types of mail
fraud—^which are also welcomed
—over to postal inspectors for
prompt investigation.
So far this year, postal in
spectors have prepared cases for
consideration by the Depart
ment’s General Counsel which,
conservatively, represent an an
nual loss to the public of $50
million. '
Under Federal statutes, postal
inspectors are charged with in
vestigating any fraudulent ac
tivity in which the U. S. mails
are used. The most prominent
fraudulent activity conducted
through the mails todky is in the
field of fake medical cures.
In the engine of an eight-cyl
inder car, traveling 50 mph, 136
spark plug firings take place
every second.
