Norris leave Simday for their siunmer cottage in Nantucket, Mass. Mrs. Thomas C. Lyons is due .to arrive tomorrow from Scran ton, Pa., to spend a week with her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. ,M, A. Lyons. Mrs. S. Davidson Herron ex pects to leave this weekend or early next week for Sewickley, Pa., where she will spend the summer months. Mr. and Mrs. John P. Taylor are spending this week on vaca tion at Long Beach. Mr. and Mrs. William C. New man and their young son and daughter have gone to Nan tucket, Mass., for the summer months. Mr. and Mrs. Edward L. Nes bitt, who have been occupying the Tomipkins place on Linden Road during the spring season, returned last weekend to Phila delphia, Pa. Mrs. Edgar A. Ewing has tak en a cottage at Pawley’s Island, S. C., for a week and leaves here Monday to take occupancy. Her house guests for the week will be her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. John Richardson, and their snmll daughter of Berry- ville, Va. Gen. and Mrs. L T. Wyche left Tuesday for Newton Center, Mass., where they will be the guests of their daughter, Mrs. Henry Flory, and Mr. Flory for the next three weeks. Miss Frances Pleasants, Miss Rose Fiske and Mrs. Ernest L. Pleasants leave this weekend for Blowing Rock, where they will spend several days. Mack Hamor and a Davidson College classmate, Bruce van Sant, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla. were the weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Hamor. Vermont Ave., Southern Pines, is completing the first phase of his basic military train ing at the “Gateway to the Air Force,” Lakeland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. Upon completion of this train ing, he will be assigned to an Air Force technical training course or an advanced basic training course leading to a spe cialized Air Force job. While at Lackland the new en listee undergoes the transition from civilian to airman through a program which includes pro cessing, aptitude testing, physical conditioning, survival and weapons training, and classroom studies ranging fromi citizenship to military customs and courtes ies. Twent-eight drivers were in volved in fatal accidents in North Carolina last year while tooling along between one and nine miles an hour.
