THURSDAY, JUNE 6, 1957 THE PILOT—Southern Pines, North Carolina Page SEVEN ■t*' Home Demonstration Club News Jackson Springs Club The Jackson Springs Home Demonstration Club met with Mrs. C. L. McDonald, with 32 members present. | Everyone was glad to meet with Mrs. McDonald to have a chance to see her remodeled home. The greeting that was giv en at the front entrance was the type that made everyone want to stay awhile. Of course the first thing in order was to just look nround. With the careful planning of Mrs. McDonald, the skillful workmanship of Mr. McDonald, and the artistic paint brush of daughter Patricia, they have completed the interior changes which have made a nice com fortable home. Two small bed rooms have been changed into a nice long living room with a pic ture window, fireplace, guest closet, hardwood floors and broad pine paneled walls. A ter race was Eilso added to the front. The spacious old kitchen was changed into two bedrooms with a hall. Running water has taken the place of the old hand pump. A new room was added for the bathroom, which is complete. The kitchen-dining nook has the place of the Old bedroom which as near (the living room. The kitchen cabinets are finished in natural pine. A large pantry and back porch were added to the kitchen. Miss Flora McDonald, home agent, gave a lesson on copked and uncooked jellies. Everyone enjoyed a taste of each kind. The members voted to have an auction sale of old redecorated hats .at our June meeting. We hope to have some fim as well as make some funds for our treas ury. They carried flowers or fruit to each place visited and left a bit of sunshine too. We are glad that Mrs. Oscar Richardson has retxirned home after spending a few days at North Carolina Memorial Hospi tal at Chapel Hill. Our June meeting will be with Mrs. John Patterson. She will give a demonstration on “Pie Making.” Devotions for this meeting will be led by Mrs. Ted Thomas. During the social hour deli cious refreshments were served by the hostess, assisted by Mrs. Ollie Currie.—By Mrs. Claud Thomas, publicity chairman. Cameron Club Members of the Cameron club have been busy helping set to bacco and trying to destroy the grass crop that is trying to take everything. They don’t have much time for other things, however, they have not neglect ed their gardens and flowere. Mrs. Walter Holt c*tainly has a fine garden, pretty flowers and a nice strawberry patch. She is always out working in the gar den or picking strawberries. Mrs. Pate Hopkins is either picking strawberries or cutting cabbage to sell from their fine patch. Mrs. Billy Sellars should have some fine dahlias. She has the finest looking plants I have seen anywhere. In April the members sold plants at their meeting, netting the club $6.70.—^By Mrs. W. B. Sellars, publicity chairman. Holly Grove Club Mrs. Leon Currie and Mrs. Victoria McKenzie were joint hostesses for the Holly Grove Club meeting at Mrs. McKenzie’s home, which has had interior and exterior remodeling. Each club member is picking strawberries this year. Last year one project was to give every member strawberry plants. »At the March meeting we voted to have an auction sale each month. April meeting and auction at Mrs. Laveme Cad- delTs home, with Dorothy and Marshall Caddell as auctioneers, netted a nice sum, as did this month’s. Each month a CARE package is sent to our foreign neighbors. A social hour followed the business, and refreshments were served.—By Mrs. Walter Poley, publicity chairman. Eastwood Club When the Eastwood Home Demonstration Club met in May with Mrs. Lee Black, she got a lot of compliments on the re freshments she served during the social hour as everything was home made. She baked the loaf bread that the sandwiches were tnade with and raised the chick en that went into the chicken salad. She also baked the cook ies and served 15-day pickles that she made last year. Along with this she served punch. Mrs. Black said the loaf bread was from a recipe that Miss McDon ald, our home agent, had given the club a long time ago. Another one of our club- mem bers, Mrs. Frank Cox, has been real busy during the month of May picking strawberries. She and Mr. Cox have a large straw berry patch and they grow ber ries for sale. People come from far and near to get berries for jellies, jams and freezing. Mrs. Cox says she stays so busy dur ing the berry season that she hardly gets time to prepare any for herself.—^By Mrs. Sam Boggs, publicity chairman.
