TOO Mrs. McCain Gives Recipe For Retirement: Slow Down Long Enough To Plan Europe Trip “I just decided ft was time for itne to get back home and do what I wanted to do!” So Mrs. Paul P. McCain (call ed “Sadie” just about every where), described one reason for resigning her position as Dean of Women at Flora Macdonald Col lege as announced last week. But she was quick to add a qualifying sentence: “I loved it— don’t make any mistake about that! I loved the girls and I lov ed the people I worked with. Be ing with the college was fine ex perience. Just the same, it will be good to slow down, at least for a bit.” But it soon became evident that by “slow down,” Sadie didn’t mean what most people mean. It is to start in July and will include the Scandinavian countries and the English lake district. . . and anything else in England and Scotland that she can squeeze into her itinerary. “And then: home? And where wUl that be?” Home will still be here; and that’s good news, for at one time she had thought of selling her home on Ridge Street. But also she plans to take a room in Wil- give her medical brother a little competition. And then, of course, there is the thought of her youngest daughter, Jane Todd, and her husband, the Rev. Sam Reagan, in far-off Japan. It’s a fair guess that Sadie has already got some Japanese time tables tucked away somewhere ready for use within the next few years. “I HAVE to go to see Jane Todd and the babies,” she says. (But not to see Japan, Sadie?) Before Mrs. McCain left the college, it was annoxmced that the students had asked, and been granted, the privilege of naming the second floor West hall “Mc Cain Hall,” in honor of their be loved dean. Among the gifts presented to her on her departure was a set of airplane luggage marked with a Scottish motif, the gift of the student body. From the alumnae came a silver tray inscribed co Mrs. McCain. The presentation speech, made by Miss Mary Archie Brown, head of the stu dent body, is printed below. “I have come on behalf of the F. M. C. Alumnae Association to pay tribute to one of the best known and best loved women in our state and certainly the best known and best loved person at F. M. C., Mrs. Paul P. Love. To me, this is the key to her life. She loves life, she knows the value of it, and lives every moment of it to the fullest, revealing always the Spirit of Our Lord. Mrs. McCain, in her twenty-four hour schedule here, has not only given understand ing, patience, love, help, kind ness, and guidance to each girl, but she has given her very self to the making of Christian Wom anhood. “We F.
