ABOUT 60 MEMBERS of the Radio-Control- ed Model Airplane League of North Carolina met Sunday afternoon at Knollwood Airport to fly their planes and swap plane lore. Flying in their own plane (real, no mod^) were the vist- itors from Lynchburg, Va., shown above, from left: Jimmy Agnor, holding his plane prepara tory to letting it zoom into flight, J. J. Thaxton, and, at right, holding the radio control with aerial, his son Henry Thaxton. League members came from Sanford, Durham, Greensboro, Win ston-Salem, High Point, ThomasviUe, Charlotte, and other places throughout the state. Many of them brought their families for the after noon. Vass Scouts Are Honored At Recognition Night Wednesday night’s meeting of Boy Scout Troop 810, held at the Vass Community House, could well be termed “recognition night.” Scoutmaster Karl Schweinfurth presided, and Explorer Leader Henry A. Borst of Vass, District Executive Frank YandeU, and Dr. J. C. Grier of Pinehurst, Moore County district chairman, were present to take part in the meet ing, along with nearly all mem bers of the local committee, a fine group of Scouts and a number of parents and friends. Mr. YandeU presented registra tion cards to the boys present, and, after complimenting commit tee rrembers for their fine work. 86 PROOF gave registration cards to A. G. Edwards, Jr., chairman, Cortis Thomas, C. G. Crockett, Jr., V. Ray Griffin, C. L. Tyson, and Horace Mullinix, W. J. Morgan was not present to receive his. Dr. Grier expressed apprecia tion for the good job being dope by Leaders Schweinfurth and Borst, and presented cards to them. The Vass troop is sponsored by the several churches, with Cortis Thomas as the institutional repre sentative. Hp accepted from Mr. YandeU the Troop charter for the year, to which was attached a special seal in recognition of the troop’s achievements in the four- year “Onward for God and My Country” program. This achievement merited, also, a laminated plaque from the Na tional organization, which Mr. YandeU presented to Mr. Schweinfurth along with a recog nition streamer for having regis tered on time, and a 100% Boys’ Life banner, indicating that each of the boys in the troop is receiv ing the official magazine. Scoutmaster Schweinfurth praised the boys for their cooper ation and acknowledged the fine response given by committee members and E. L. Finch in the scouting program. He also presented Dr. Grier, who spoke briefly, stressing the rewards to be derived from serv ice to youth, given without thought of monetary gain. 'Ihe Rev. T. Fant Steele, Jr., closed the meeting with prayer.
