Pleas ants on Bethesda Road with Mrs. T. G. Poindexter as hostess. Mrs. F. E. Deese gave a very in teresting review of Faith Bald win's book “Face Toward the Spring.’ Following the program, Mrs. E. T. McKeithen accompan ied the group in singing a num ber of old songs, led by Mrs. Deese. Mrs. Deese then sang “Be lieve Me If All Those Endearing Young Charms,” “Perfect Day,” and “Just A’Wearying For You.” During the social hour the hostess served coconut cake, grapefruit peel and coffee. Guest Speaker The Rev. Carl Johnson gave an interesting program on the “Women of the Bible” at the regular meeting of the Sandhill Botik Club Friday afternoon, in the home of Mrs. K. R. Keith There were 18 members present. At the close of the meeting the hostess served Russian tea and sandwiches. Mrs. Pleasants Entertains Mrs. Francis Pleasants enter tained the members of her bridge club and Mrs. John Sloan at sup per and bridge Saturday evening in, her home on Bethesda Road. Chicken salad, sandwiches, Ritz crackers, c£^ke and coffee were served. During play, grapefruit peel, nuts and drinks were en joyed. After several progressions, scores were tallied and prizes given to Mrs. Dan Mangum, high, Mrs. Hazel Allison, second high, and Mrs. Sloan, guest. Others playing were Mrs. D. B. Herring, Mrs. Jack Smith, Miss Pearl Mc Millan, Mrs. Edna Maurer and Mrs. M. B. Pleasants. Brieif Mention Mrs. C. C. Bethune spent the Tnanksgiving holidays with Mr. and Mrs. A. V. Townsend and sons in Fayetteville. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Brewer of Jonesboro Heights and Dr. and Mrz. John K. Robertson and children of Pembroke spent Thanksgiving with W. H. Mc Neill and family. Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Green and son, Harold, of Woodstock, Ga., were Thanksgiving guests of Mrs. Green’s sister, Mrs. J. D. Cruce, and family. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Wood cock and son. Woody, and Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Caddell spent Sunday visiting Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Caddell, Jr., in Raleigh. Mrs. Lewis Merrill and Marsha visited Mr. and Mrs. G. F. Stil- well in Salisbury on. Thanksgiv ing day. Mrs. C. F. Buffkin spent the weekend in Clinton attending the wedding of Miss Joyce Peter son to Julian Hill. Mrs. Gordon Keith and son David, met another son. Gray, in San Antonio, Texas. Gray had spent .several weeks with his aunt and uncle, Maj. and Mrs. Robert Mobbs, and children in Salt Lake City, Utah. Mr. and Mrs. Jean Folley and daughters visited Mrs. Folley’s mother, Mrs. J. P. Leggette, in Gibson on Sunday. Mrs. Mary Christopher and John Christopher visited Mr. and Mrs. Jack Mclnnis and family in Salisbury during the holidays. W. H. McNeill, Mrs, D. H. Lewis, Miss Minnie Brewer, Mrs. Catherine McN Burns, Robert Burns and Miss Dorothy McNeill spent Sunday in Durham visiting Mr. and Mrs. W. H. McNeill, Jr., and family. Johnny Burns ac companied them home after a weeend visit. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Samuels spent Thursday and Friday in High Point. Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Smith, after completing his basic training in the Air Force. Billy Russell of UNC, Chapel Hill, Glen of Catawba College, and Elizabeth of East Carolina at Greenville spent the holidays with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Russell. Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Wilson and children of Savannah, Ga., spent the holidays here. Mrs. Frank McNeill and sons have returned from Wilmington after spending the weekend with her mother, Mrs. Paul Jordan. UNC ^udents home for Thanks giving were Adelaide Schnell, Dorothy McNeill, Kenneth Car rington, Merrit Sugg and Freder ick Schnell. Streptomycin, the first drug used successfully to treat tuber culosis, was discovered by Sel- man Waksman in 1944.
