Rosser, with Mrs. H. A. Borst as associate hostess. There will be a guest speaker from the Fayette ville Social Security office. Mrs. E. L. Finch, chairman of i the Public Affairs department, is in charge of the program;. Double Header Vass-Lakeview girls and boys won a basketball doubleheader from Farm Life Friday night, the girls winning by a score of 55 to 30, and the boys, 59 to 46. Girls Sponsor Dance The Senior Girl Scout troop sponsored a New Year’s Eve dance at the Vass community house, which was attended by around 50 young people. Special contests added interest to the evening’s entertainment. A brother-sister team, Joe and Ann Edwards, won in the bop contest, and Bonnie Callahan of Vass and Barbara Thomas of Carthage v/on in balJrom dancing. Boxes of candv were given as prizes. Dinner Party Mr. and Mrs. Cortis Thomas entertai.ned seven couples at a New Year’s Eve dinner party rt their home near Vass. 'Turkey, ham, and all the iTirrirrings were included in the menu. Men Will Lead Service Members of the Men’s Bible Class of the Methodist Church School will be in charge of the 7:30 p. m. worship service this Sunday, January 12. The plan of having various groups lead the service on second Sunday evenings was instituted several months ago. Already the young people, the Ladies’ Bible Class, and the Young Women’s Class have led a service, also. Morning Service 'The regular second Sunday morning service will he held at the Presbyterian Church at 11 a. m., with the pastor, the Rev. A. C. Trivette, in charge. Personals Mr. and Mrs. C. G. Allen of Concord and Mr. and Mrs. R. F. Matthews of Alexandria, Va., visited Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Evans Sunday. Mis Bessie Cameron and Mrs. W. H. Keith visited their sister, Mrs. R. D. Braddy, at Rockfish a day last week. Mrs. T. L. McNair went to Villa Rica, Ga., last Friday to spend a few days with her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Archie McNair, and family. Mrs. Charles Epler of Mohnton, Pa., who was on a visit to her son. Norman Epler, and family in Lakeview, spent a night last week with Mrs. R. G. Rosser. Mrs. Epler left Saturday for her home. A. L. Edwards, Jr., Wednesday night and Linda ac companied them home. Mike and Mary Coe, small' children of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Coe, who were patients at St. Joseph’s Hospital, are now improving at home. McLauchlin- of Route 2, Vass, and Mrs. Charles ' Loup of Southern Pines left Tuesday morning for Florida, planning to spend about two weeks, chiefly at St. Petersburg and Clearwater. Mr. and Mrs. C. R. Pope at tended open house at the home of Col. and Mrs. Stephenson af Fort Bragg New Year’s night. Billy Jessup, Jr., year-old son of the Billy Jessups of Lobelia Road, was a patient at St. Jos eph’s Hospital from Thursday of last week until Tuesday with pneumonia. Terry, three years old, was admitted to th ehospital with pneumonia Sunday. Mrs. John S. Caddell entered St. Joseph’s Hospital early last week for treatment. At the latest report she was improving. Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Abernathy visited Mr. and Mrs. Brownie Cooper at Broadway the first of the week. Mr. and Mrs. G. M. Blue had as Sunday dinner guests Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Brim of Seagrove and Mr. and Mrs. Lee Wilkes and son, Bobby, of Laurinburg. Afternoon callers were Mr. and Mrs. Jonah Dunlap of Robbins. Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Gsehr wind visited her relative^ at Mullins, S. C., last weekend. Mr and Mrs. Douglas Frye and daughter, Kirk, left Monday for their home in Whittier, Calif., after being here for the wedding anniversary of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Frye, on Dec. 31. Mrs. Wilson Stead of Altadena, Calif., will be with her parents for another week. Howard Harris of Route 1 is re ceiving treatment in the Moore Memorial Hospital.i ' Mrs. Fred Womack entertain ed at Christmas night dinner with the following members of her family present: Mr. and Mrs Gentry Womack and son Billy of Greensboro, Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Womack and Jimmy, of Char lotte, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Auman and children of West End, and Mr. and Mrs. Laverne Womack and children of Carthage. Miss Mary Louise McDonald left Monday for Chambersburg, Penn., where she is music direct or at Penn Hall Junior Colley, after spending the holidays with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. D. Frank McDonald. Mrs. Margaret Penn returned Sunday night from a month’s visit with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. James Wallace, in Toledo, Ohio. Mr. and Mrs. Earl B. Y.( Friday to at tend the funeral of their sister, Mrs. Pauline B. Zeiser, who died Tuesday in a hospital in Albany. Mrs. W. G. Caldwell returned Friday fromi a 10-day visit with relatives in Orangeburg and Neeses, S. C. Mrs. J. K. Roberts and Mrs. W. G. They are: Lt. Col. Timothy Cleary, senior warden; Burton Q. Perham, junior warden; E. Nolley Jackson, clerk; and Gar land Pierce, parish treasurer. All are from Southern Pines except Colonel Cleary, retired Army of ficer, -who lives in Pinebluff. Four new vestrymen went into office with the meeting this week: Brig. Gen. Lehman W Miller, Dr. William F. Hollister, Thomas C. -Darst, Jr., and Eu gene C. Stevens.'
