For Work In Blood

Program In Past
John F. Buchholz of Southern
Pines, whose name is synonymous
with blood donor in this county,
was commended for his untiring
efforts in that direction last week
as the directors of Moore Mem
orial Hospital approved a reso
lution expressing their apprecia
tion for his contributions.
Buchholz, who lost a leg during
World War 2 and received many
transfusions afterwards, has for
many years been dedicating his
time toward developing an active
blood , donor program in Moore
County. He is currently serving
as assistant chairman of the
Bloodmobile program.
In the past he has headed the
Red Cross blood donor program
and has worked closely with the
two area hospitals in securing
donors whenever the need arose.
Here is the resolution adopted
by the Board at its meeting on
October 28:
“RESOLVED that at a Regular
Stated Meeting of the Board of
Directors of Moore , Memorial
Hospital, Inc., held on October
28, 1958, the Directors Rereby

John Mare, owner of the build
ing, has been doing extensive re
modeling to both the exte?ior and

He said that Mrs. Wallace Ir
win and Mrs. John R. Drexel
would operate the shop, which
will be open each day except
Sunday.
An official opening date has
not been announced.

added to the^ collection at the
Southern Pines Library in the
past two months, according to
Mrs. Kathleen Lambourne, the
librarian.
Of the books, about half were
for children and young adults.
The library, which has recent
ly become a department of town
administration, makes monthly
purchases of new books of a wide

The Soi^hern Pines junior var
sity football team, known as tbe
Squires,” defeated Aberdeen 34-7
Monday night for their fifth vic
tory of the season. They have lost
only one game, that to Sanford.
Jerry Tollisop and James Con
nor led the scoring for the Squires,
Tollison scoring on two 50-yard
runs and passing to Connors for
two other touchdowns. Skipper
Honeycutt also scored on a 35-
yard run.
Extra points were made by Bil
ly Wilson and Eddie McKenzie.
The game concluded the
Squires’ schedule, which they
opened with a. 37-0 victory over
Raeford. Other games were as
follows: Red Springs, 34-0; Rae
ford again, 32-0; Red Springs 15-0;
and Sanford, 0-32.

Dr. John B. Chase, Jr., an as
sociate professor of education at
the University of North Carolina,
will be the principal speaker at a
dinner meeting of the Moore
<^unty unit of the North Caro
lina Education Association in the

day.
