Page FOUHTEEN THE PILOT—Southern Piaes, North Carolina THURSDAY, APRIL 23, 1959 Heart Ailment Claims Father Of W. C. Darden W. A. Darden, 65, of Greenville, father of W. C. Darden of South ern Pines, died last Thursday night of a heart attack. Funeral services were held Saturday morning at the Wilkerson Funer al Home and burial was in Greenwood cemetery at Green ville. Surviving are his wife; three sons, Bert Darden of Charlotte and Harper Darden of Richmond, in addition to W. C. of Southern Pines; six grandchildren, and a brother, Fred Darden, of Farm- ville. Mr. Darden had ' visited in Southern Pines a number of times. On a- visit in January he became ill and spent three weeks at Moore Memorial Hospital. The local son and daughter-in- law with their children, Patricia, Linda and Bill, went to Green ville Friday and remained until Sunday. PINEBLUFF NEWS By MRS. EHRMAN PICKLER April 12 to 18 was National Li brary Week and the young peo ple of Pinebluff entered a Poster Coptest. Billie Bryant was first prfee winner, Libby Lathan won second prize, and Debbie Ham mond received honorable men tion. Others participating in the contest were Phylis Boyd, Sara Leslie Alpert, Susan Thompson and Mac Lathan. Mr. and Mrs. John Burrer en tertained a group at a pot luck dinner at their home last Tues day evening. Guests iircjuded: Mr. and Mrs. Russell DeWitt, Mr. and Mrs. George Cole. Mr. and Mrs. John Torrille and Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Gustafson. Mr. and Mrs. Marion Sessoms of Chapel Hill were guests Sun day of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Sessoms. Mrs. Dorothy Wilson of Phila delphia visited her uncle, I. G. Wylie, and cousin, Leon Wylie, Sr., and Mrs. Wylie over the weekend. Pickier of Wilmington visited his brother, E. F. Pickier, Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Russell DeWitt ^eft last Wednesday for their home in Skaneateles, N. Y., after spending the winter in Pinebluff. Mr. and Mrs. George Cole have returned to their home in Perry, N. Y., after ' spending several months at the Moger Apartment. Grandmother Of Mrs. VanderVoort Dies Mrs. Nettie Chadwick Davis, 86, wife of the late A. F. Davis of Davis, died Wednesday morn ing, April 15, following an illness of 10 days. The family is one of Carteret County’s oldest and most historic. “Miz Nettie,” as she was affec tionately called by her multitude of friends throughout the county, was one to whom everyone turn ed for help and encouragement. The Rev. James Womble, pas tor of the Davis Memorial Baptist Church, and the Rev. Van Klyve officiated and burial was in the family cemetery. The grave was banked with lovely floral tributes and many out-of-state relatives and friends attended the rites. Among the survivors are her daughter, Mrs. E. M. Medlin of Aberdeen, and granddaughter, Mrs. C. R.
