Garden Parly
The Carthage Garden Club
was entertained last Friday
afternoon at a party in the gar
den of Mrs. John M. Currie. Mrs.
M. G. Boyette, Mrs. Joe Allen
and Mrs. Currie were hostesses
for the occasion.
After admiring the informal
planting of lovely spring flowers,
guests were invited on the ter
race where assorted sandwiches,
cakes, nuts, coffee and punch
were served. Mrs. Robert Cagle,
president of the club, presided
at the punch bowl.
Seated on the lawn, the club
discussed plans to visit the Try-
on Palace, in New Bern and to
attend the Historic Homes and
gardens tour in Hillsboro, which
will be on the 25 and 26 of April.

Twenty members were present
and the invited guests were: Mrs.
C. A. Prevost, Mrs. Sadie K.

Gertrude La Barbe of Asheville,
Mrs. E. H. Kennedy of Rocking
ham, and Mrs. David Hume from
Greensboro, a former member of
the club.
New Officer
Miss Frances McCaskill of Car
thage, student at Peace College
in Raleigh, has been elected vice-
president of the Westminster Fel
lowship in the First Presbyterian
■Church in Raleigh.
Alumnae Meeting
Peace College alumnae held a
dinner meeting at the Carthage
Hotel Saturday with former stu
dents of this area and the presi- i
dent, Dr. W. C. Pressley and
Mrs. Pressley attending.
Mrs. Alma Hackney of Sanford
was chairman of this district. Dr.
Pressley spoke briefly of the
college. The secretary, Mrs. Isa
belle Thomas of Cameron, called
the roll, with 18 members pres
ent.
Mrs. Floyd Knight will serve
next year as chairman and Mrs.
L. R. Sugg as vice-chairman.
A four-course dinner was serv
ed.

Saturday dinner guests of their
mother, Mrs. Lonnie Blue. The
dinner was in honor of Mrs. Joe
Pinkston’s birthday.

1 — An Elective Southern Pines School Board, to give the schools back to the people.
2 — Re-zone U. S. No. 1 bypass for business purposes to promote the continued growth and' development of Sou
thern Pines.
3 — Extend the boundary lines of McNeills Township io include Southern Pines Sch(x>l District so that persons
who work, attend Church, and send their children io school in Southern Pines can vote here.
4 — Extend the city limits of Southern Pines to include the area between the Seaboard Airline R. R.. Morgan-
ton Road and Beihesda Road. So that persons receiving Town services will assume a fairer share of the town
financial responsibilities.

5 — New Firehouse for Southern Pines to replace inadequate one now in use.
6 — Reduce the sewer tax on water to a realistic standard.
