Worth Fund Has
Big Increase In
Net Asset Value
R. L. Huffines, Jr., president
of Worth Fund, Inc., announced
at a stockholders meeting yester
day that the net asset value per
share had increased 62 per cent
in the period from June 30, 1958,
to May 31, 1959.
. “This is the best record of ap
preciation in asset value of any
fund whose figures were available
to me,” he said.
The fund, which was market
ed here by Thomas Darst of
Cherokee Securities, Inc., was
established primarily for invest
ments in the textile field. There
are many local subscribers.
At the meeting in New York
the stockholders approved a
change in the investment policy
of the fund to permit more flex
ibility in investments within a
single industry; approved estab
lishing daily prices on the offer
ings of the fund’s shares based
on the net asset value as comput
ed each day; and approved the
authority of the Board of Direc
tors to call for tenders this year
On 10 per cent of the outstanding
shares.
Among new directors elected
were Lewis C. Burwell, Jr., of
Pinehurst, and Huffines, who was
also re-elected Chairman of the
Board and President.

A native of Jamesville, she
moved to Southern Pines in 1920
with her husband, W. A. Moore,
who survives. They celebrated
their 50th wedding anniversary
in February.

ters, Mrs. Mildred Merrill, Sou
thern Pines; Mrs. D. T. Read,
Plymouth, and Mrs. John E. Dan
iel, Union City, N. J.; one son, W.
P. Moore of Raleigh, and three
grandchildren, and one great
grandchild.
Soldier Who Beat ,
Constable Escapes
From Prison Camp
Word was received by Moore
County Sheriff Wendell B. Kelly
this week that John Geniting,
who was serving an 18 months
sentence for the assault of a
Cameron constable, has escaped
from a prison camp near Murphy
in Cherokee County.
Geniting, who was stationed at
Fort Bragg at the time he beat
Constable Lester Wood, was con
victed in Moore Superior Court
in January. He beat Wood, ac
cording to the trial testimony,
after being arrested near Vass.
He was arrested several days
later at Fort Bragg.
Travel Council
Plans Summer
Meeting At Beach
The North Carolina -Travel
Council will hold its summer
meeting at Carolina Beach July
15-16, according to Glenn Tuck
er, president.
Tucker, who is also mayor of
Carolina Beach, has invited any
one in the travel industry to at
tend the meeting. The organiza
tion, the only one representing
all segments of the travel indus
try on a state-wide basis, will
headquarter at the Bame Hotel
for the meeting.
