W. R. Clegg of Cleveland, Ohio, Mrs. James Clawson and children of Jacksonville, and Miss Fran ces Ann Clegg of Richmond, Va., are at home due to the illne^ of their mother, Mrs. W. R. Clegg, who underwent surgery in Moore Memorial Hospital Friday morn ing. Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Roberts and children were here with his mother, Mrs. J. K. Roberts, over, the weekend and attended the Cowell-Brown wedding Sunday the Presbyterian 1 afternoon in church. Mr. and Mrs. Norman Epler and son, David, and Mrs. Lou Cole of Lakeview, visited Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Maness Sunday afternoon. The W. H. Currie family and Miss Mary Currie are vacationing ! at' their summer homes in Mon treat. . Mr. and Mrs. John M. Currie and daughters, Susan and Robin, spent last weekend with Mr. and Mrs. John S. Leach and family in Washington, N. C. 1 Mr. and Mrs. H. Lee Thomas visited Mr. and Mrs. Fred S. Cates, Jr., in Hillsboro over the weekend. While there they were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Cates at the Summer Play House in Dur ham to see the Broadway produc tion of “Mister Roberts,” star ring Sheppherd Studwick, a na tive of Hillsboro. The Studwick family and the Cates are neigh bors in Hillsboro. Mrs. Alton Muse returned jhom.e Saturday from a month’s j stay with her son, MjSgt. John R. iMuse, and family at Lackland AFB in San Antonio, Texas. Mrs. Muse made the trip there and back by plane. Mrs. W. V. Carter of Aber deen visited her sisters, Mrs. R. L. Burns and Mrs. W. O. Dupree, and sister-in-law, Mrs. J. E. Muse. Thursday. George Ross To Speak Tuesday At Wildlife Meeting George R. Ross of Jackson Springs, former Director Of the N. C. Department of Conserva tion and Development will be the speaker at the July meeting of the Moore County Wildlife Club. The meeting will be held Tuesday evening, July 7, at the Howard Johnson Restaurant at 7 p. m., according to an an nouncement by Neill E. McKay, program chairman for the occa sion. Mrs. Charlie Worth of White- ville was here Sunday evening to visit her mother, Mrs. A. Blue. Miss Sara Jo Allen, director at Camp Gertrude, in Pinehurst, was in Raleigh Saturday night to attend the Moore-Meeks wedding at White Memorial Presbyterian Church. Mr. Moore was a class mate of Miss Allen at Peace Col lege. Miss Allen also attended the Cowell-Brown wedding Sun day evening in the Carthage Presbyterian church, before re turning to camp. Zion Church, Miss Agnes Lavinia McLean became the bride of George Frederick Moore of Binghamton, N. Y. The Rev. J. G. Flowers officiated. The bride is the daughter of Mrs. Nora McLean Jackson, of Southern Pines, and Mr. Mitchell McLean of Philadelphia. Given in marriage by her brother, Mitchell McLean, Jr., of Philadelphia, the bride wore a gown of white nylon tulle and Chantilly lace over satin. The bouffant tulle skirt with bands of lace ended in a cathedral train. She carried a bouquet of white, carnations and a white orchid. Miss Helen V. McLean, sister of the bride, was maid of honor. She wore a ballerina-length gown of pale green taffeta and carried green carnations. The brides maids were’Mrs; Mary McLean Townes, sister of the bride, of Durham, N. C.; Mrs. Grace F. Lee of Southern Pines, Mrs. Doris M. Taylor, sister of the groom, and Mrs. Eleanor Heunm of Balti more, Md. Their dresses were pink and they carried pink car nations. J. C. Hasty, organist, and Al bert Lutz, soloist, presented a program of nuptial music. Emil.ie M. Townes, niece of the bride, and Theresa Lee served as flower girls and Charles Henry Clark as ring bearer. The bride’s mother wore a dress of mauve lace and chiffon; the mother of the groom was dressed in beige. Mr. Moore had as his best man, Joseph Wilson of Binghamton. Ushers were J. Rochelle Small, J. V. Gordan, Jr., and P. I. York of Southern Pines, and Leslie Green and ,Joe Taylor of Bing hamton. For traveling the bride wore a princess dress of navy blue linen with white accessories. Mrs. Moore is a graduate of Cortes Peters Business College of Baltimore, Md. She is employed as a private secretary. Mr. Moore attended New Eng land School of Art, Syracuse University, and the University of Hawaii. He is employed as a commercial artist for Internation al Business Machines Corp. in Oswego, N. Y. Following the ceremony the bride’s mother entertained at a garden reception. After the wed ding trip to New York City and Canada, Mr. and Mrs. Moore will make their home in Bing hamton, N. Y. George Leaman Cowell Jr. The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wilton Hope Brown, the bride is a member of the English Depart ment of Princess Anne High School, Lynnhaven, Va. She is a graduate of Peace Junior College and th.9 University of North Car olina, where she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority. The bridegroom 'is the son of Mr. and Mrs. George Leaman Cowell of Belpre, Ohio. He was graduated from Marietta College, where he was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha social frater nity and Omicron Delta Kappa honorary fraternity. He is now Special Services Officer at Vir ginia Beach, Va. The Rev. Bernard E. Dotson of ficiated and music was presented by Mrs. !/• R- Suggs, organist, and John R. Kelly, Jr. vocalist. The bride’s father gave her in marriage. The bridal gown was a family dress of white faille taf feta. A Juliet cap of Chantilly "lace held her fingertip veil, and the bride carried a cascade of white bridal roses and baby’s breath, centered with a white or chid. Mrs. Carl Meroney of Ruther- fordton was matron of honor. She wore a floor-length dress of white silk sheer with aqua print and a picture hat of aqua sheer braid. She carried a nosegay of painted daisies. Bridesmaids were Mrs. Robert Modie of Marietta, Ohio, sister of the bridegroom. Miss Shirley Mc Arthur of Carthage, Mrs. C. D. Gaskins of Charlotte,' and Mrs. L. M. Barnes, III, of Rocky Mount. Miss Marian Elaine Brown, sister of the bride, was a junior brides maid. Lloyd D. Cowell of Belpre, Ohio, was his brother’s best man. Ushers were Richkrd S. Brown, Robert Modie, of Marietta, Ohio, James E. Cunninghana of Belpre, Ohio, William D. The parents of the bride enter tained at a reception at the church following the ceremony. After a wedding trip to the mountains of North Carolina, the couple will make their home at Virginia Beach, Va. ^ Pre-Nuptial Courtesies Mrs. A. G. Gaskins, Mrs. Carl Meroney and Mrs. B. C. Wallace were hostesses Sunday morning at 10 o’clock at a wedding breakfast for the Cowell-Brown wedding party and out of town guests, at the home of Mrs; J. M. Lane in Brooklyn. Following the Cowell-Brown wedding rehearsal Saturday night, Mrs. Lee Wheeden and Mr. and Mrs. D. L. Traynham, grandmother, uncle arid aunt of the bride, entertained' the wed ding party at a cake cutting at Mrs. J. M. Lane’s home. The home was decorated with pink flowers, and the pink motif was carried out on the bride’s table, centered with an arrange ment of pink flowers, flanked by silver candelabra, holding pink candles. The three-tiered wed ding cake, topped with a minia ture bride and groom, was served by Mrs. Raymond Cole, aunt of the bride, after the first slice was cut by the bride. Mrs. G. L. Cow ell of Belpre, Ohio, poured punch. Around 50 attended. Miss Miller Feted On Tuesday at one o’clock, at the Carthage Hotel, Mrs. H. J. Hall, Miss Carolyn Hall, Mrs. Carl Meroney and Mrs. B. C. Wal lace were hostesses at a three- course luncheon honoring Miss Rose Miller, bride-elect of July 4th. Coke Party Mrs. Sherwood Brockwell, Jr., of Southern Pines entertained from 11 till noon, last Wednesday at a Coke party honoring Miss Barbara Brown and Miss Rose Miller.
