The couple’s only at tendants were Mr. and Mrs. Thom as McKenzie. After a short wed ding trip, Mr. and Mrs. Candage will make their home in Pine hurst. Priro Winners In the Lions Club annual con test for the best Christmas dec orations, the Carolina Hotel won first place for business establish ments, with Dr, Francis L. Owens’ Mayflower Cottage winning first in residential decorating. First honorable mention went to L. B. Creath’s Bomar Cottage, next to Herbert Ehrhardt, Jr., and third to William H. Fleming. For originality, first prize went to Paul Uhilig’s cottage; Pine Acres, the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred N. Derouin, won first mention in this class and Mrs. Lewis Johnson’s cottage second. For the second year. Dr. John C. Grier, Jr.’s office decoration won first prize for religious themes with honorable mention going to General and Mrs. Albert N. Sneed and Mr. and Mrs. J. A. The contest was inaugu rated in 1957 by the late Col. El liott Springs as a means of en couraging artistic talent in the two Carolinas. Prizes totaling $1,000 are pro vided by The Springs . Cotton Mills and include a $500 first prize, a $250 second prize, a $100 third prize and 4th, 5th and 6th prizes of $50 each. The first contest showing was held in January, 1958, in the Lan caster National Guard Armory, with 147 works of art on exhibit. Winner of this first contest was Phillip Moose of Charlotte. More than 40 entries have al ready been received in the sec ond contest, which is open to all residents of North and South Car olina. Entry notices will be re ceived up to February 1, 1960. All art works entered in the contest must be delivered in Lancaster not later than February 18. The public exhibition will be open March 1 and will be held in the Army Reserve Training Center instead of the Lancaster Armory. Rules for the 1960 contest are unchanged from last year except that each contestant may enter two works instead of one. Works of art entered in the contest may be in any medium without re striction as to materials, tech nique or subject matter, but they must be originals, not more than two years old, which have not been previously entered in a con test. Entries winning cash prizes be come the property of The Springs Cotton Mills. The Springs organ ization also reserves the right to make selections from the entire list of entries for exhibition in art galleries, schools and other wor thy organizations for a reason able length of time after the con test showing.
