Page FOURTEEN 1!HE PILOT—Southern Pines, North Carolina KIWANIS REMAINS SPONSOR Plans Made for Picquet Music Festival For School Glee Clubs in Moore County Dr. Arnold E. Hoffman, adviser in music education from the State Department of Public Instruction, met with a representative group of teachers, supervisors and sup erintendents in the Carthage Li brary to plan for a Picquet Music Festival to take the place of the Iformer Picquet Music Contest, sponsored by the Sandhills Ki- wanis Club each year. Alwin Fol- ley, chairman of the Boys and Girls Committee of the Kiwanis organization was present to assist in the planning. Elected as chairman of the group was Joseph Beach, Glee Club and Band Director of the Aberdeen School. Under Dr. Hoff man’s guidance, the following de cisions were made: , 1. A committee from the group will be appointed to select the music to be used. 2. Each music director will teach the numbers to the entire High School Glee Club. 3. A proportionate number of students from each high school to be selected to sing—depending on the size of the stage. 4. Dr. Hoffman will direct and put together the voices from all schools in a day long program May 5, then the final production will be presented Friday evening. May 6, as a culmination of Na tional Music Week. 5. Dr. Hoffman will, meet with these directors of music at a des ignated date prior to the final re hearsal. Beach, Mrs. Ruth Gladstone, William McAdams, glee club director from Southern Pines; and Miss Ann Ho vis from Pinehurst; Mrs. Beulah McPher son, Superintendent Luther Ad ams of Southern Pines Schools; and Superintendent R. E. Lee of the Moore County School system. This meeting was under the di rection of Mr. Lee, who introduc ed all guests and presented Dr. Hoffman to the group. S. T. Martindale Succumbs at 90 Samuel Thomas Martindale, 90, died at his home on Route 1, Rob bins early Friday. Funeral services were held Sunday at 2 p. m. at the Pilgrim Holiness Church In Highfalls with the Rev. Fred Cooper officiating, assisted by the Rev. Don Gates, the Rev. J. A. Price and the Rev. Bennie Maness. Burial was in the church cemetery. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Arch Frye of Route 1, Car thage, four sons, Wiley of Ashe- boro, Thomas, John, and Jesse, all of Route 1, Robbins, and eight grandchildren. Tar Heel hens now average over 195 eggs annually, as compared with 113 in 1940.
