The proceeds will be used to defray the ex penses of Qur volunteer fire de partment with the firemen spon soring this event. Eire Chief J. B. Barnette says that some one has been ringing the fire tele phones, apparently just to have the firemen rush to the phones. These men, are giving so gener ously of their time that all tele phone owners should watch care fully that no one calls, 2526 (the fire number) unless to report a fire. The calls can be traced, but it is hoped that it will not be necessary to take that step. Ut most caution should be used for the following six weeks when burning trash outside the home. Following the thawing of the snow, the. grass will be dry and the March winds will be high and together can be a fire haz ard. . Fires can be controlled by using precaution, especially now! Wiener Roast The cold wind 'Tuesday failed to chill the enthusiastic members of the Senior High Fellowship of the Presbyterian Church when they assembled to clear the Church lawn of the broken pines following a recent storm. Rev. George Houck was there with Elder Hobson Tucker’s pick-up truck to haul away the debris which the SHFers piled on. The Adult Advisers, Misses Tressie Auman and Bert McCrumimen were also there to lend a helping hand. The best of all . was the warm fellowship and wiener roast with all the trimmings in the Recreation Hall for supper. ^ Methodist Church Revival services will begin at the Methodist Church Sunday evening, March 20, at 7:30 and continue through Friday 25. The Rev. B. p. Merritt of’ Cary will bring the message each evening. The Rev. Aaron Tyson and his -■’fellow Methodists extend a wel come to alj to worship with them , next week. ^ * The circles', of the Methodist women met Monday. Mrs. Ernest Tart was hostess to Circle III. Mrs. Jonas Rector gave the wor ship service and Mrs. Decatur Richardson had the program. The Margaret Brown , Circle met with Mrs. T. J. Fletcher with Mrs. Vivian Tucker having the program. Mrs. W. H. Johnson was hostess to the afternoon circle. Mrs. Lee Sutphin had the -worship service and Mrs. A. J. Hanner gave the program. A program will be given on safety with members of the Junior Choir of the Methodist Church having a devotional. Funeral Services Funeral services were held Sat- i urday afternoon at 2 p. m. for Mrs. Mary Allen Munri, 89, of Biscoe at the Laurel Hill Baptist Church with burial in the Church cemetery. She was the mother of G. A. Munn. Attending the fun eral from here were Mr. and Mrs. Hawley Poole, Mr. and Mrs. Hob son Tucker, Mr. and Mrs. Allan McDonald, Misses Neplia and Bert McCrummen, Miss 'Ti’essie Auman, Mrs. Leslie Gordon, the Rev. George Houck, and Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Auman. Circles Meet The Circles of the Women of the Presbyterian Church met Monday evening with each Cir cle having a program on Evan gelism. Mrs. Everette Cole presi ded at her Circle which met with Mrs. Bob Youngblood Miss Treva Auman gave the program and Mrs. R. B. Lewis had the Bible Study.. Mrs. M. C. McDonald, Jr. pre sided at her Circle with Mrs. Dor othy Black serving as hostess. Mrs., Tommy, McNeill gave the Bible study and Mrs. ,G. A. Munn presented the program. Mrs. Z. B. Conrad, Jr. presided at her Circle and Miss Mary Rit ter and Mrs. Harold Markham gave the program. Mrs. eGorge Houck had the Bible study. The woe president. Miss Bert Mc Crummen, was a special guest. 13th Birthday Mrs. William Jackson had a party Tuesday afternoon for her daughter^ Jane, on her 13th birth day in the Recreation Hall of the -Presbyterian Church. The hostess carried out a color scheme of yel low and green in keeping with St. Patrick’s Day. The guests en joyed games as well as Jane’s beautiful birthday cake, ice cream, and cakes. And for Jane, the gifts were many and pretty. Birthday Dinner It was a family get-together Sunday for Mrs. Nola Lewis hon oring her on her birthday. At home fof dinner were the Robert McCracken family of Hamlet, the Clarence Pattersons of Carthage, and Mrs. Loman Gordon of King who is spending this week with her mother. Franklin Farmer spent several Wet Earth Makes Trenching Danger state Labor Commissioner Frank Crane has cautioned con tractors and other persons work ing on trenching operations of unusually dangerous ground con ditions created by recent snows and rains, increasing the prob ability of. cave-ins and landsides. Crane said the, Labor Depart ment has issued a special Safety Bulletin oh trenching and exca vations. The bulletin contains ex act information, with explanatory diagrams, on. proper and adequate shoring to protect workers from cave-in hazards. Copies will be sent free to all who request them, he said, from the N. C. Depart ment of Labor at Raleigh. Miss Cole, Rt. 2, Carthage, Dies Miss Sarah Elsie Cole, 56, of Route 2, Carthage, died Saturday night in St. Joseph’s Hospital. She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Maggie Lee Kelly of Carth age; one brother, Cecil Cole of Johnson City, Tenn. Funeral services were held Monday at 3:30 p. m. at Carthage Methodist Church, conducted by the pastor, the Rev. Robert Moore. Burial was in Cross Hill Cemetery, Cartilage.
