THURSDAY, JUNE 30, 1960 THE PILOT—Southern Pines, North Carolina Page NINE Young Moore Men Enlist in Army, Now in Training Several Moore County men have enlisted in the US Army ac cording to Sergeant Paul Hawks, Army recruiter, who serves this area. Three of these graduated from Vass-Lakeview High School in June. They are Garland L. Pat terson, Route 3, Carthage; Frank B. Garcia, Lakeview, and Tyronne R. Medlin, Route 2, Carthage. Larry A. Edmonds, Pinehurst, a graduate of Pinehurst High School and James B. Greene, Jr., of Robbins, who graduated from Elise High School in June, unlist ed also. Recruit Patterson qualified for and received approval to attend the Aircraft Maintenance School at Fort Rucker, Ala., after basic training. Recruit Garcia selected assign- , mem to a classified unit in the Army. Recruit Medlin enlisted for Army Airborne, and will enter jump school after basic training. Recruits Edmonds and Greene qualified for and received ap proval to attend the Radio Tele type Operator School. All were forwarded to Fort Jackson Reception Center and will take basic training there or at another Army training center and upon completion all will nor mally receive a short leave at home before entering schools or next assignments for which they enlisted. Sergeant Hawks, who heads the Army Recruiting Station in THEATRES SUNRISE In “The Sign of Zorro,” the Walt Disney Studios preserve to the hilt the prowess and fabulous character which Johnston McCul- ley wrote into his slashing novel three-generations-of-readers ago. The film is now playing at the Sunrise Theatre. The romantic action drama will serve to rank the famous masked rider against evil doers of Span ish California securely among the all-time top fiction heroes of pop ular favor — the Robin Hoods, the Don Qiiixotes, the Monte Cristos, the D’Artagnans and all that honorable company. Guy Williams, weU known American star, plays the Zorro role with the dash and fire and romantic fervor required of the character. But he also has the sincerity which gives the aven ger a credible human appeal and the story of his escapades be- lievability instead of the theatri cal swashbuckling often associat ed with the classic latter-day hero. With Britt Lomond as Williams’ adversary and a company of bril liant talents in support, Co-Di rectors Norman Foster and Lewis R. Foster give “The Sign of Zor ro’’, top entertainment quality in a blend of fun and fury address ed to adults as well as young audiences. Sanford, visits Moore County post offices each week on Thursday, and can be reached at the recruit ing office in Sanford other days of the week including Saturday mornings. His office phone is Spring-34292 in Sanford. L^a^ue Bowling ms AND HERS MIXED LEAGUE j^esulls Southern Pines Recapping won over Autry Brothers 3-1. Joe’s Grill defeated Braeburn Hall Motel 3-1.
