On the theatre grounds, a frontier cabin has recently been restored as first unit in a recreated pioneer settle ment of the 18th Century. Hayes, Howell and Associates of Southern Pines designed the structure which will have more than 4,000 square feet of floor space. At top is an illustration of how the building will look from N. W. Broad St. Below is a side elevation, showing the unusual roof design. Note the screening walls (indicated by trees growing behind them) which enclose courtyards. Tentative plans of the post, call for a swimming pool. The prop erty is bounded on two sides by N. W. Ses- sorns of Manly is the contractor on the project, on which work be gan last week following a ground breaking ceremony June 25. Fred HaU, Jr., commander of the post, stressed that the new building will help the post in its community service activities. One of the meeting rooms in it will seat 65 persons and will be avail able for public gatherings. Cost of the land and building will ex ceed $50,000. The Veterans of Foreign Wars, from Post level to National level, stand for community service; wel fare of veterans; the safety of the nation and the preservation of tne American way of life, offi cials of the post explained. They listed the following activities and accomplishments of the post: Permanent fence placed around city hall park. Concrete dugouts provided at pall park-. Volunteer blood bank for Moore Memorial Hospital. V. F. W. Cootie Organization contributed $525 to the N. C. Cot tage Fund at Eaton Rapids Na tional Home. Basketball trophies presented to the school’s outstanding boy and girl player. Football trophies presented at annuai banquet. Entertain patients from Vet erans Hospital, at the Post Home. Helped needy veterans travel ling through our town. Average ' 140 baskets of food and toys, to needy families, each Christmas. Sponsored annual Christmas party, for the kiddies, at the post home. Sponsored Pony Baseball Lea gue team since 1954. Sponsored local softball team. Provided over $1,000 toward addition of a room on the house of a paraplegic veteran. Participate, with local civic groups on community programs. Conduct Military funerals for deceased veterans. Maintain club facilities, open daily, for the enjoyment of mem bers in good standing and their families.
