Page FIVE for 108.7 acres. According to the complaint, she signed the deed because Mr. Moss had previously indicated to her a small strip of land (which she understood to be, the com plaint says, “just a few feet along the road”) which Mr. Moss said Mr. Cardy had promised to give him but had not done so before he Thomasson Attends Furniture, Rug Mart W. Traylor, Jr. and daughters, Becky and Donna, spent the holiday week end visiting Mrs. Traylor’s cousin, Mrs, Fred Lane in Winston-Salem. Mr. and Mrs. George Little and their sons, George and Ken, have^ returned from a weekend at Vir-^ ginia Beach, Va., where they vis ited her sister, Mrs. J. R. Kelly, j •. .1 f Jr. and family. Joyce Little, who L/CagllC went with them, is spending the Keiys* All-Stars Top Mr. and Mrs. Floyd O’Dell of Brownstown, Ill. left Tuesday after spending several days with his sister, Mrs. Charles R. Morri son and her sons, George Morri son and his wife and family, and James Morrison and his wife. On Friday, the O’Dells and Georg? Miss Alice Anne Gamble who has been spending part of her summer vacation with her par ents, Mr. and Mrs. David W. Gamble at their home on Mass achusetts Avenue, left Sunday for six weeks of girls’ auxiliary camp at Fort Caswell and Hen dersonville, where she will serve as a senior counselor. Mr. and Mrs. Donald A. Jones returned Monday after a week’s stay in Johnstown, Pa., where they visited his mother. Weekend house guests of Mrs. C. B. Gale were her sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. James Perry of Charlotte. Mrs. Gale’s daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. John Stewart and small sons of Myrtle Beach, S. C. \'isiled her last week for several days. Ellen Romero went back to the beach to be with them until Sunday when she plans to return home. Mr. and Mrs. M. C. McRae and daughter, Carolyn, returned home Tuesday after a 10-day motor trip to Florida. They visited Mrs. Taris Kruk and son, Ty in Miami Beach and on their return trip, Via Cypress Gardens and Silver Springs, stopped off for a stay with former residents Mr. and Mrs. James Lawson and family in Ocala. The McRaes spent Sunday and Monday in Daytona Beach with Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Giimm, formerly of Carthage, who accompanied them to the 250 stock car race there. Mr. and Mrs. Harry M. Vale and their children of Southern Pines and the Wallace W. Simpsons, and their daughter. Miss Lucy, left Friday for Pawley’s Island where they are spending the month of July in the Lovering cottage. Miss Lee Hobson visited Miss Simpson over the holiday weekend. Here for Independence Day weekend with her father. Arch Coleman, were Mrs. John Dundas and her children, John and San dra, of Washington, D. C. Mrs. Elgivra Watson and her three children, of Wilson, spent Sunday here with her mother, Mrs. Dun das and the family. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth McCrim- mon have returned from Sarasota, Fla. where they spent the week end with her parents. Betsy Thomas of Raleigh was the weekend guest of her grand parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe C. Thomas. Mrs. H. A. Page of Aberdeen and Mrs. Marion Taylor Brawley of Southern Pines, will leave Monday.to spend the balance of the summer at the former’s place in Gunnison, Colo. Mrs. James Boyd is expected there for a short visit after her attendance at the convention in Los Angeles next week. Mr. and Mrs. D. S. Ray spent the weekend with their son, Rich ard and his family in Winston- Salem. While there they visited O. F. Taylor, who is critically ill, and Mr. Ray’s sisters, Mrs. Taylor and Miss Elizabeth Ray. Bill Marley of Philadelphia and his fiancee. Miss Helen Booe of Winston-Salem were weekend guests of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph P. Marley. The Mar- leys and their son, Joe, Jr., drove to Concord Monday to get her mother, Mrs. J. M. Howard who is spending a few days with them here. Aberdeen Team The Southern Pines Little League all-star baseball team de feated Aberdeen 4-0 in a game played at Momerial field on July 4th night. Jimmy Pate was the winning pitc-cer. Leading the hitting for Southern Pines were Johnny Rowe of the Braves and Demp sey Bailey and Frank Ligon of the Cardinals. y Other outstanding players were Ronnie Bradley, Paul Grootman and Jerry Wilson of the Pirates; Mac Fowler, Dodgers; Ronnie Brown, Braves; and Fred Atkins, Cardinals. In a preliminary game, the Cubs of the Southern Pines Minor League defeated a similar team from Aberdeen, 4-3. MILDRED McDonald Town Clerk J7e Morrison accompaned the letter s mother to Durham for a checkup following an ear operation she had at Duke two weeks ago. Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Younts have returned from SavEmnah, Ga. .where they spent the July 4th ^weekend. at ‘"The Paddock” on Bethesda Road, near Southern Pines, seeks recovery of land from Mr. and Mrs. W. O. Moss of Mileaway Farm, alleging that she was de frauded. The land, according to the com plaint, is a portion of 148.7 acres which she purchased in three tracts from Vernon C. Cardy, for mer owner of The Paddock, in 1955. After Miss Sears bought the Cardy land, the complaint states, she formed a close friendship with the Mosses and, according to th? complaint, they were kind, cordial and hospitable to her and did her many favors and she trusted them completely. The complaint also states that Mr. Moss acted as her agent in hand ling her North Carolina property and that he had some construc tion work done for her. The complaint alleges that in February, 1956, Mr. Moss induced Miss Sears to sign a deed for land which she thought was no more than a half acre or at most an acre, but that the deed was in fact An answer to the complaint has not yet been filed by Mr. Moss.
