They are playing in State championships being held in Sanford this week. Their first game was with the Champions of District VIII, from the Wilming ton area, Wednesday night. The All Stars team is made up of boys from the Pinehurst. Cubs, the Pinehurst Lions, Carthage Ro tary and Carthage Car-Fab teams. O. Monroe of Manly, died Tuesday. Funeral services were conducted Wednes day aftp^riooh at the Cameronian Presbyterian Church, Rocking ham, with burial in Eastside Cemetery. Mrs. Monroe is one of four sur viving daughters. Others are Mrs. Joe Helton and Mrs. Jesse Taylor, of Rockingham, and Mrs. E. W. Snyder of Portsmouth, Va. Also surviving are two sons. Charles A. Gillis and Jim N. Gillis, both of Rockingham. Mrs. Maness of Carthage Dies Mrs. Herbert L. Maness, 68, of Carthage, died Tuesday morning in the Moore Memorial Hospi tal after a long illness. She was the former Alma Cagle. She is survived by her hus band and four sisters, Mrs. Car- son Yow and Mrs. Charles Ben nett, both of Carthage, Mrs. A. O. Goodman of Raleigh and Mrs. Emily Brown of Greensboro; and one brother; John L. Cagle of San ford. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 4 p. m. at the Car thage Baptist Church, conducted by the pastor, the Rev. C. N. Bix- by and the Rev. W. S. Golden. In terment followed in Cross Hill Cemetery. ARMED FORCES Re'cruit Howard T. Medlin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Howard P. Medlin of Route 3, Carthage, has been as signed to Company A, 9th Battal ion, 2nd Training Regiment at Fort Jackson, S. C. for eight weeks of Basic Combat Training. He enlisted in the Regular Army at R,aleigh. As a climax to this first phase of training, he will march with his battalion in a review before the commanding general of Fort Jackson.
