McNEILL Garden Cluh The Aberdeen Home and Gar den Club held its first fall meet ing Tuesday afternoon, Septem ber 19, in the home of Mrs. J. H. Bishop with Mrs. Forrest Lockey and Mrs. H. W. Doub as co-hostt esses. The yearly awards were pre sented by Mrs. Bishop. Mrs. R. M. Bender received a bird bath for the most improvement in the yard during the year. Mrs. Lewis Harrington received a piece of shrubbery for the most continu ous bloom during the year. Mrs. Talbot Johnson and Mrs. Bender won the club’s traveling prize and received bulbs for their award. Miss Gloria Cruce presented a program of music during the afternoon. Misses Ann McKeith- en, Brenda Cooper and Nancy Troutman sapg several selections. The new yearbook was dedica ted to Mrs. Doub, who has been selected dogwood chairman of the State Garden Club. Guests were invited into the dining room where they were served delicious refreshments and where Mrs. Jack Taylor, new president of the club, poured cof fee. Round Robin Club Mrs. Ralph Leach was hostess to members of the Round Robin Garden Club on Wednesday af ternoon, September 20. Bill Booker, of Southern Pines, presented an informative talk with illustrative slides on “Land scape Architecture.” Mrs. Jere McKeithen’s arrange ment of marigolds was voted in first place and Mrs. Bob Farrell’s arrangement of roses placed sec ond. The hostess served delicious re freshments to the 10 members present during the social hour. Sandhill Book Club The Sandhill Book Club met with Mrs. Robert Farrell on Fri day afternoon, September 22. Mrs. J. K. Melvin, Jr., president, presided over the routine busi ness session. ABERDEEN NEWS Mrs. Dan Farrell presented a timely program on the late Secre tary-General of the United Na tions, Dag Hammarskjold. The hostess served cake, nuts, and fruit punch to the 14 mem bers present for the meeting. Mis. Clark Hostess Mrs. Vann Clark was hostess to members of her bridge club and two guests on Friday evening at her home here. Following sev eral progressions of play, scores were tallied, and Mrs. Anne Mischke was declared high scorer of the evening. Miss Dorothy Mc Neill held the travel prize. The hostess served lime sher bet, cake, and coffee to Mrs. Mack Wallace and Mrs. Mischke, guests; and Miss Faye Matthews, Miss Dorothy McNeill, Mrs. Cur tis Mclnnis, Mrs. Frank McNeill and Mrs. Harry Watson, mem bers. Bethesda Women The Women of Bethesda Pres byterian Church held their monthly meeting on Sunday eve ning in the fellowship hall of the church. Mrs. Jake Bridgers, re tiring president, presided. Mrs. Frank Mizell led the devotion and Mrs. Ben Wicks led the group in prayer. Following the routine business and reports, officers for the en suing year were, elected. The annual opportunity to gather at the old kirk for a service of worship and praise, and th.3 traditional picnic dinner on the grounds, was highlighted this year with a message by Dr. Ben Lacy of Richmond, Va. president- emeritus of Union Theological Seminary. Among those from greater dis tances who were present for the homecoming at Bethesda were Mr. and Mrs. Harold McKeithen of Winston-Salem; Mr. and Mrs. Labe Little of Albemarle; Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Ray of Asheboro; Miss Annie McKeithen, Miss Frances McKeithen, Mrs. Dan Carter and Mrs. Russell Clegg, all of Carth- I age; Mrs. Loi^ C. Hall and son of [ Laurinburg; and Mrs. J. C. Sin gleton of Candor. A familiar and beloved person there was Max Folley of Southern Pines. Mr. and Mrs. John Sloan, Jr. of North Wilkesboro also attended. Willis Clark, student at Wake Forest College, spent the week end with his family, Mr. and Mrs. Harris Clark, and attended home coming. Dr. Ben Lacy was the Saturday night houseguest of Mr. and Mrs. E. T. McKeithen.
