McCrimmon Of Lakeview Dies; Rites Held Today Duncan McCrimmon, 70 died Tuesday at his home in Lakeview. Funeral services were held this (Thursday) afternoon at Lakeview Presbyterian Church, conducted by the Rev. Grover Currie of West End, former pastor, assisted by the pastor, the Rev. Dan Nor man. Graveside services followed at Union Church cemetery in charge of Southern Pines Masonic Lodge No. 484, of which he was a member. Mr. McCrimmon, who was widely known in the Sandhills, was born in Cumberland County, in a section which later became Moore. He formerly owned and operated the Aberdeen Supply Co., a feed and seed business at Aberdeen, and was the owner of considerable property in the area. including Lake Bay. Georgia continues to he the South’s leading producer of pulp- wood for the pulp and paper in dustry, the state’s 1960 harvest totaling 4.9 million cords. McNEILL Wins Recognition Miss Libby Voss, student at Aberdeen High School, has been given recognition for high achievement m the initial stage of the seventh annual National Merit Scholarship Competition. Libby ranked 16lst out of 12,-' ‘iJ.i students in North Carolina I who took the test last March. This I makes her eligible to take part in the semi-finals, the next step to determine the Merit Scholars of the nation. This is a coveted hon or with many vieing for it. Good luck, Libby! Walter Hines Page Club Mrs. Henrietta Courtway was hostess to the Walter Hines Page Book Club recently with 24 mem bers and one guest, Mrs. Law rence Johnson, present. Mrs. W. C. Neill, president, pre sided over the business session. The club has taken North Caro lina Folklore for its programs of the year. Mrs. C. E. Pleasants presented a most interesting pro gram on the North Carolina In dian. ' During the social hour Mrs. Courtway served delicious re freshments to the group. Brownie Troop 98 Because of the large number of girls interested in the Brownie Scouts, this troop has been divi ded into two groups. There were 34 girls attending the first meet ing last Thursday at the First Baptist Church. The fourth grad ers will be in a separate group' under the leadership of Mrs. Charles Shields and Mrs. Larry Simmons and will meet in the home of Mrs. Shields. Mrs. Carl Wynn, Mrs. Roy Overby, and Mrs. Lindsay Goings leaders of the second and are third grade Brownies, who will continue to meet on 'Thursday at the First Baptist Church. The patrols include: Sweet Po tatoes, with Rebecca Goings lead er, and Alice Faye Overby, as sistant-leader; Butter Beans, with Linda Cruce as leader and Freda Wicker as assistant-leader; and Corn Patrol with Kathy Hall as leader and Leigh Flinchum as as sistant^. Mr. and Mrs. Frank McNeill and children spent the weekend in Wilmington and attended home coming at Pearsall Memorial Presbyterian Church on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. J. Talbot Johnson are visiting their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Wescott Burlingame, and family in Roch ester, N. Y. They will also visit relatives and friends in other places in the north. While in New England, Mrs. Johnson will at tend the 50th reunion of her class at her alma mater. Mount Holy oke College, in South Hgdley, Mass. Her granddaughter is cur rently a student at Holyoke. Miss Ellen Monroe is a patient at Moore Memorial Hospital. Mrs. D. B. Herring spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. D. B. Herring and sons in Fayetteville.
