Page SIXTEEN THE PILOT—Southern Pines, North Carolina THURSDAY, OCTOBER 12, 1961 JAMES L. RITCHIE James L Ritchie Buys Western Auto Associate Store James L. Ritchie has bought th|9 Western Auto Associate Store of! Southern Pines, at 230 N. W. Broad St. The new owner and operator purchased the business from B. G. Gilmer, Jr. Mr. Ritchie and his wife, Bette, who will also be active in the business, moved here in Septem ber from Hagerstown, Md., with their three children, Jimmy, 16; Barbara, 12; and Robin, two years old. The Ritchies, however, wlere not strangers to Southern Pines, as Mjr. Ritchie spent considerable time*in this area during 10 years of service in the Air Force dur ing World War II and the Korean campaign. “Obtaining this Western Auto Store,” Mr. Ritchie said this week, “is the highlight of my life. I always considered Southern Pines one of the most beautiful spots in the country in which to settle and set up a business.” Mr. Ritchie, who likes to be called “Jim,” resigned from the Air Force in 1953 to accept a pos ition with the Fairchild Aircraft division in Maryland, as a tech nical administrator. This work sent him and his family to many parts of the country and the world. Their longest stay overseas was 52 months in India where he was with the Indian government. Just prior to resigning from Fairchild and making arrangements to take ownership of the Western Auto Associate Store, the family spent three years in Alaska. The Ritchies are Presbyterians and expect to be active in Brown- son Memorial Church and in civic work as well. Mr. Ritchie is a member of the Society of Mili tary Engineers, .Civil Air Patrol, Freemasons, American Legion and Parent-Teacher Association. P^e is a licensed pilot and aircraft engine mechanic. North Carolina farmers in creased their use of lime more than any other state in the southeast this fiscal year. Lime tonnage rose approximately 116,- 000 tons above the preceding year. Georgia was next with an increase of about 28,000 tons. ^fch. Olti ans . « A ccou.
