. Traffic violations made up the
majority of cases coming before
Judge W. Harry Fullenwider and
Solicitor Howard Broughton in
recorders court last Wednesday.
There were 16 traffic cases, in all
of Which a judgment of guilty
was given.
Clyde McKenzie, Lakeview,
pled guilty to the charge of care
less and reckless driving, was
found guilty and sentenced to
spend 30 nights in the city jail.
“If defendant fails to show up, he
' is to be sent to the Moore Co. jail
and 30 days of work.”
Alvin Laubscher, Vass, found
guilty of sjieeding, was charged
the court costs.
James McNeill, speeding,
leniently treated, (fined cost) fol
lowing his convincing description
of how come he was “speeding”
. . . “My car stalled and, stalled
testified that “if I hadn’t jammed
on my brakes he would have
hit me, and hard.” No personal
injuries were reported and only
minor ones to , the cars involved.
Neither car was speeding. It was
noted that there is no stop sign
at this intersection, (however vis-1
ibility is good), and that the In-j
•diana Avenue car was almost
across the intersection before it
was hit.
Other traffic offenses were as
follows; Dewey J. Tillman found
guilty of careless and reckless
driving, fined $25 and costs; Earl
M. Watson, Hoffman, speeding:
$10 and costs; Alma T. Cruse,
Aberdeen, disregarding a stop
sign: fined $5 and costs; Norman
Caddell, disregarding a stoplight:
$5 and costs; Jerry Lee Guffy,
Bessemer City, allowing an un-
liosnsed person to drive car: $10
and costs; Linda Patterson, no

Nelson Moore Knight, Ft.
Bragg, guilty of disregarding a
stop sign and violation of his li
cense restrictions, was fined $25
and cost; Richard F. Cobb, Carth
age, found guilty of disregarding
a stop sign, was fined $5 and
cost; Ronald L. Lockhart, found
guilty of the same offense, re
ceived the same sentence. Silas
Douglas, guilty to running a red
light, fined the cost; Charles
Reed, guilty of failure to yield,
fined $5 and cost; Wayne Davis,
driving without a license, fined
$25 and cost; Jean A. Hunsucker,
iRaeford, guilty of improper pass-
ling; fined $15 and cost.
Silas Asbury Whitaker, Cam-
jeron, guilty of careless and reck
less driving, was sentenced to 10
idays in the county jail. Charles
M. Burkett, Elheron, N. J., found
guilty of speeding 35 in 20 mile
zone, was fined $15 and cost;
Vicki D. Hicks, West End, found
guilty of racing and careless and
reckless driving, was fined $35

A note of drama was introduc
ed iiito the court proceedings
1 with the appearance of Will Gad
dy, charged with being a “public
drunk,” wearing a white hand
kerchief highwayman style. It de
veloped this was to protect

I attributed his generally enfeebled
j condition. Following considerable
chat and a weary but patient lec
ture by the judge, another 30-day
sentence was added to the de
fendant’s lengthening court rec
ord. Gaddy was placed under the
watchful eye of James Gugh, for
whom he has worked, who said
he would see that the judge’s ad
vice that the defendant should
see a physician would be carried

Vornie Harrington was accused

One of the shortest dockets to
be presented to the local Record
er’s Court was that of this Wed
nesday. Ten cases, most of them
for traffic offenses, were handled
in record time by Judge Fullen
wider and Solicitor Broughton
and the local fores.
The only case offering any
complications was that of Mrs.
Wanda M. Carter, charged with
failure to yield, causing an acci
dent. The verdict was Not Guil
ty when it was established that
Mrs. Carter had applied her
brakes 48 feet from the corner Of
Indiana Avenue and Harden
street, where toe incident occur
red, whereas the driver of toe
other car, which she struck, had
