Miss Jo Ann Brewer and A. O. 3, John W. Hipp, USN, were mar ried October 14 at the Vass Meth odist Church in the presence of their families and a few close friends. The bride’s pastor, the Rev. David L. Moe, officiated at the afternoon ceremony, and music was presented by Mrs. W. E. Gladstone, pianist^ of Southern Pines. The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Brewer, the bride gradua ted from the Vass-Lakeview High School and has been em ployed by the Carolina Bank of Vass. Her husband, nephew of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Gilmore of Vass, completed high school in the Navy, and is now stationed at Oceana, Va. ^ Given in marriage by her brother, Donald Br.-’wer, the bride wore a gown of white satin and her fingertip veil. She carried a white Bible topped wiv'ih a white orchid. Her matron of honor, Mrs. Samuel .Frye, wore a mle green dress and carried a bouquet of yellow feathered carnations. A. b. 3 Charles Pickier, of Oceana, was best man. Following a wedding trip to the Tennessee mountains, the couple is at home in Oceana, Va. District Meeting Serving as officers at the Southeastern District convention of the Supreme Forest Woodmen Circle in Lumberton last Wed nesday were two members of Dogwbod Grove, Mrs. RaywUl Pearce as president and Miss Stella Morrison as secretary. Two new members of the local grove were presented for initia tion, Mrs. Wanda Carter of Southern Pines and Mrs. Norma 78 Play in Silver Foils Event For Senior Women Golfers A special tournament for mem bers of the Silver Foils Club, in Pinehurst for the fourth annua Women’s North & South Seniors drew a field of 78 Monday over Courses One and Three of the Pinehurst Country Club. Mrs. Fred Meissner’s net 72 gave her the prize for Class A in the Individual Medal Play event. Tied for runner-up position were Mrs. James Dorment and Mrs. J. Stuart Brown, Jr., with net 81’s. Mrs. J. Joseph Connor and Mrs. Hugh Kelly each posted a net 7 to tie for first place in Class B. Three tied for first in Class C, with net 76’s, were Mrs. John W Lindsay, Mrs. John Byler, and Mrs. Clement R. Monroe, the lat ter the only non-Senior in the ‘winners’ bracket. At 88, Hirana Westbrook Displays Talent on “88” Several frisnds made a surprise visit to Hiram Westbrook at his home on 150 West New York Ave. Monday—his 88th birthday. After refreshments were ser ved, Mr. Westbrook entertained his guests by playing the piano with his usual skill and enthusi asm. His piano is still his com fort and recreation, as it has been since he began playing at the age of four. Guests calling to felicitate Mr. Westbrook on his “four score years and eight” were Mr. and Mrs. Fred Brindley, Mrs. H. Wil lard Sterrett, Mrs. Everett Walk er, James Pleasants and Misses Emily Fish and Louise Haynes. Miss Pearl Pearson returned Friday from Asheville Where she attended a five-day Nurses’ con vention.
