Acting as hostesses for, the occasion Were Mrs. T. J. Fletcher, Mrs. Decatur Richard son, Mrs. Paul Tart, and Mrs. Ernest Tart. The Halloween motif was car ried throughout. The gift table was centered with an arrange ment of crysanthemums with a jack-o-lantern and fall leaves on each end of the table, On the mantle and piano were branches of fall leaves of various colors. Yellow candles and yellow chry santhemums were used on the re freshment table. Each guest arrived wearing a Halloween hat of her own de sign, with the exception of the guest of honor, who was present ed a corsage made of autumn leaves and chrysanthemums to blend with the other decorations. After a parade of hats, Mrs. Par sons and Mrs. W. A. Johnson, Sr. selected a winner, Mrs. Ernest Tart. She was wearing a black and orange Halloween bonnet. After the games, the honoree opened her gifts and acknowl edged them. Gingerbread, candy corn, and roasted peanuts were enjoyed as the'' Halloween witch, Mrs. D. D. Richardson, appeared and served hot Russian tea from her blhck iron pot, which caused much mer riment and many comments. Mrs. Parsons is the former Miss Patricia Brewer. The couple now lives in Candor and Mrs. Parsons is a nurse at Moore Memorial Hospital. Kick-Off Dinner The Lions Club attended the county-wide kick-off dinner for the 4-H Clubs in Carthage Wed nesday evening, where they heard L. L. Ray of the State Col lege Foundation speak \n behalf of the 4-H organization. Presbyterian Men Meet The Men of the Presbyterian Church met Sunday evening with Mrs. Hobson preparing sup per. Archie Farmer, newly elect ed president of the church men, led a discussion on plans for the coming year. Choir Sings Anthem The Junior Choir of the Presby terian Church gave an anthem “Kess^ed Jesu” by Bach at the Sunday morning worship ser^e.' Celebrate Birthdays Mark Johnsori' celebrated his seventh birthday with a- masked Halloween party at his home on Tuesday. His mother,, Mrs. W. A. Johnson, Jr. was assisted by Mrs. W. A. Johnson, Mark’s teacher; Miss Blanche Monroe, Becky Markham and Stephen, Libba and William Johnson, in helping the guests have fun For refresh ments, Halloween - decorated cupcakes and punch was served and for favors there were twirl- ers and books. The guests were Jill Hunsucker, Verona Ann Cole, Jeannie Donaldson, Donna Ray Jordon, Nancy Carter, Susan Au- man, Robert Gordon, Larry and Dan , Graham, Neill Sutphin, Mitchell Currie, Danny Furr, Tim Mclnnis, Randy Luck, Banks Richardson, Johnny VonCanon, Thad Rector, and Danny Lee. Johnny .VonCanon celebrated his sixth birthday with a party on Wednesday. Kathy Cole and Susie VonCanon assisted Johnny’s mother, Mrs. Bobby VonCanon, in directing the children’s play. For favors,' the guests received balloons, party hats, soap' bub bles, and kaleidescopes. And for refreshments, there were birth day cake, ice cream, orange juice and candy; in fact everything to appeal to the children following a day at school. At Johnny’s party were Neill Sutphin, Mitchell Cur rie, Mark Johnson, Thad Rector, Verona and Van Cole, Cindy Craven, Robert Gordon, Jimbo and Michael VonCanon. Mrs. Burns Dies Mrs, William Burns, 93, sister of Mrs. M. L. Morris, died last week at her home in Reading, Mass. Mrs. Burns is remembered in this section as the former Mrs. William McLeod, whose late hus band was superintendent of Pine- hurst Inc. at the turn of the cen tury. The McLeods were residents of Pinehurst at the time of his death in 1903. Mrs. Burns was the mother of Mrs. Tom Burns, a frequent visitor here and of Her bert McLeod, who often vacations in Pinehurst. Personals Mr. and Mrs. Bill Poley have returned from a trip to the New England States where they were the guests of Bill’s aunt, Mrs. Ed Kurtz of Norristown, Pa., and of his cousins, Mrs. Frank Bossert and Miss Margaret Faust of New Egyiit, N. J. Richard Seawell is home after spending three weeks at Duke Hospital for an eye operation. His mother, Mrs. Archie Seawell, was with him during the time. Mrs. Mamie Gibson is home after being hospitalized at Moore Memorial last week'. Cassie Gib son of the High Point Memorial Hospital School of Nursing was at home for the weekend. Miss Vivian Tucker of Lumber- ton was home with her mother for the weekend and Julia Hanner was home from Louisburg Col lege for the weekend. The members of the D. C. Blue Hunting Club celebrated the kill ing of the first deer of the season with a family get-together at the lodge Saturday evening. Attend ing from here were the John H, McCaskill family and the E. L. Sutphins and Brenda Graham. Miss Emily Thompson of Char lotte spent the weekend with her mother, Mrs. Minnie Thompson. Calling on Mrs. 'Thompson Sun day afternoon were Mr. and Mrs. Weldon Royall of Denton. Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Sinclair spent the weekend with his sis ter in Whitakers. Mr. and Mrs. Bob VonCanon left Greensboro by plane Wed nesday for a trip to Chicago where they will spend several days. The Woman’s Club will meet Thursday evening at 8 o’clock at the Presbyterian Church. Its a baby girl, Amanda Gay, born last week to Mr. 'and Mrs, Leonard VonCanon at Moore Memorial Hospital. Sunday dinner guests of the Bob VonCanons were Mr. and Mrs. Hollie Sisk with Dianna, Kitten and Hollie Lee III of Southern Pines. Mrs. Bobby VonCanon with Johnny and Michael visited Mrs. Tom Alexander in Thomasville recently. North Lewis of the Troy Mobile Homes .attended a showing of mo bile homes in Miami, Fla. last week. The North Lewises,had a fam ily dinner on 'Tuesday evening for their twin sons’ birthday. Mrs. North Lewis’s father, Charles Krywokulsky, has returned to his home after being hospitalized in Chicago. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Lewis and family of High Point visited rel atives here last weekend. Have the soil tested before plowing.
