Tbs program began Monday night with the ladies en tertaining all the women of the church at a supper, with a menu of European dishes. The ladies will meet for the program with Mrs. Fred Taylor in charge. The annual Annie Armstrong offering will be taken at the conclusion of the program. Court of Awards The Girl Scout Court of Awards was held at the Vass Cbmmunity house on Monday night, November 20. The flag ceremony and invocation were given by five senior girl scouts from Sanford. Following the cer emony, each girl made a personal talk on “What Girl Scouting Has Meant to Me.” Mrs. B. E. Wright, field representative for Moore County, gave a talk. Mrs. Hoyt Caddell presented Child Care Awards to Sandra Smith, Mary Pope, Brenda Richardson, Joanne Richardson, Pat Cain, Marjorie Bullock, Kathy Thompson, Ann Thomas and Holly Hales. Visits Hospital Den No. 1 of the Vass Cub Scouts accompanied by their Den Mother, Mrs. Howard Gschwind, paid a pre-Thanksgiving visit to St. Joseph’s Hospital Wednesday afternoon to carry favors which they had made to be used on the patients’ trays on Thanksgiving Day. Included also were painted blocks, a gift from the Den for the children’s ward. After a tour of the hospital, they were served refreshments by the Sisters. Mak ing the visit were Paul McGill, Jessie Coore, Jr. David Morgan, Mike Gschwind, Jimmie Mullinix, Wayne Chavis, Jimmie Pegg, and I Billie Curtis. Society Meets The Children’s Missionary So ciety of the Vass Methodist Church met Sunday afternoon at the church with their co-leaders, Mrs. Horace Mullinix and Mrs. Charles Cameron. Carol Kling- enschmidt, president, presided alter which the leaders intro duced the new study, a 10-ses- sion program on South America. Mrs. j;ames Key was hostess for the month and refreshments were served. 4-H Club Report The Vass-Lakeview Junior 4-H Club held its first official meet ing in October. Officers elected were as follows: president, Jean Thomas; vice president, Ilene Baker; secretary, Larry Mat thews; songleaders, Debbie John son and Brenda Campbell; re porter, Ann Thomas. At the second meeting, held in November, projects for the year were selected. The program was on Health and health bulle tins and records were given out. L. Keith; and Tom my Jessup, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Jessup, both of St. An drews College Mrs. David Maples and chil dren, David and Pamela, of Mon ument Beach, Mass, and Mr. and Mrs. D. L. Patterson and Eddie Cockman of Carthage, were Thanksgiving Day dinner guests of the Ray Griffins. Mr. and Mrs. Allan Thompson and children, Debbie, Dennis and Denia, of Charlotte, spent from Friday until Sunday here visiting, with Mrs. D. H. McGill, Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Baker and family, and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Baker, in Sanford. Vann and Teresa Wornble of Raleigh were holiday visitors with their grandmother, Mrs Daniel Boggs and family. On Sat urday their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hal Wornble joined them and re turned home on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Rayborn and son Glenn, of Aiken, S. C., spent the weekend here with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Frye. Visiting here with their par ents, Mr. and Mrs. L. B Frye and family over the Thanksgiving holiday, were Mr and Mrs. Ralph Hendrick and family of Hamlet; Mr. and Mrs. Jackie King and children of Kernersville; and Mr. and Mrs. Waylon Thomas and son of Black Mountain. Mrs. Daniel Boggs was hospi talized at St. Joseph’s Hospital last Thursday, following an acci dent in her home in which she sustained a fractured shoulder Roy Blue is a patient at Lee Memorial Hospital, having under gone surgery Monday of this week. Mr. and Mrs. Howard White and son, of Greensboro, were Thursday dinner guests of her aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Ed win Cameron and family. The Rev. Wallace Smarr of Mebane, former pastor of the Vass Baptist church, with his family, visited friends in the community on Thanksgiving Day. Hugh McDermott of Indian Head, Md. spent from Wednes day until Sunday here with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. M, Mc Dermott. ! Elllis To Speak Dec. 5 At Wildlife Club Meet MOORE COUNTY BASKETBALL Full Cage Action Set This Week For Teams of Schools Over County BY JOEL STUTTS Phil Ellis of Raleigh, a rr.em- ber of the North Carolina Wild life Resources Commission and a well known radio personality, will be the speaker at the De cember supper me-sting of the Moore County Wildlife Club, to be held at 6:30 p. m., Tuesday, December 5, in the Carthage Ho tel at Carthage. Visitors will be welcom.3. North Carolina’s cotton belts, in general, run beside U. S.. 301 from South Carolina to Virginia and U. S. 74 from Laurinburg to Shelby. Although some of the County’s High School teams have already played Conference games, all teams will see action this week with the exception of Westmoore which has an open date. The Pinehurst Rebels have impressive wins including a win over the Cameron boys. The full 1961-62 campaign will be launched Friday evening with all games beginning at 7 p.m. as West End will host Aberdeen’s defending champions, Vass-Lake view will entertain Cameron and Robbins will play at Pinehurst. Farm Life will travel to High- falls as two of the coriference’s top gifls teams will meet. A Sat urday night game is set for Southern Pines, when Carthage’s Bulldogs will meet the Blue Knights. Tuesday of next week Vass- Lakeview will play at West End; Southern Pines will meet its arch rival, Aberdeen, at Aberdeen; Pinehurst travels to Cameron; Carthage will host High Falls and Farm Life meets Robbins on the Robbins home court. When you attend these games, you will not only be supporting the fine schools of this Confer ence but will be entertained by some of the best high school basketball played anywhere.
