Southern Pines Mrs. Nonie Foster Celebrates 101st MntiiigsEAST with NEW BllPOnt ^i**thday With Relatives, Friends TAYLORTOWN RESIDENT Mrs. Nonie Foster of the Tay- lortown community near Pine- hurst observed her 101st birthday November 12, making her one of the oldest, if not the oldest, per son in Moore County. A resident of Taylortown for the past 30 years, after moving from Carthage, Mrs. Foster was born November 12, 1860. She is the widow of the late Todd R. Foster. With her to celebrate the re cent birthday were four of her children, Mrs. Oppie McLean of Syracuse, N. Y., Mrs. Clara Kel- lum who lives with her, Mrs. Paper Carrier Hurt in Wreck Lowra Thomas and Harvey Fos- r. Granddaughters present were Mrs. Jehue Brown, Mrs. Ulysses Barrett and Mrs. Kyser Criss. Also present were several great grand children. Mrs. Foster has 17 grandchil dren, 43 great-grandchildren and one great, great grandchild. Friends and neighbors came to see her on her birthday and she received many gilts. There was a birthday dinner in which rel atives and friends joined. Mrs. Foster’s health is reported to be “about as good as a year ago” when she turned 100, and she was described as in “high spirits” for the birthday celebra tion. Young Men Will Take Army Exams BEEFEATER GIN 5.25 Fifth A morning pewspaper carrier out delivering his papers early on Thanksgiving Day was the victim of an automobile accident which landed him in the hospital with painful injuries. J. H. Walters, 59, of Vass, and his son, Bobby Walters, 25, who was driving for him, were both injured when the car left Midland i.oad between Southern Pines and Pinehurst, striking two pine trees in the central parkway. They had just come out of the driveway of Dr. W. El Hollister’s home, where thy had delivered a paper. Both nvan suffered lacerations of the face and head, with con tusions and a bad shaking-up. They were taken to Moore Memo rial Hospital at Pinehurst, where Bobby received emergency traat- ment and was released later in the day, while his father is ex pected to remain several days as a patient. Trooper R. R. Samuels, investi gating, said Bobby Waiters told him the steering gear failed. The car, a new compact bought just two weeks earlier, was damaged an estimated $1,000 worth. There was no evidence of negligence, the trooper said, and no charges were preferred. The Army Pre-Induction sched ule for the month of December shows that a total of 87 men will be called to Raleigh from Lee, Chatham and Moore Counties ac cording to Sgt. Paul Hawks, Army recruiter, whose office is in Sanford. Thirty-six men are scheduled to leave Sanford De cember 1. 25 men are scheduled to leave Pittsboro December 18, and 26 men are to leave Carthage December 6 for physical examinations and writ ten tests at the Armed Forces Ex amining and Induction Station in Raleigh. Sgt. Hawks says that in past months about 25 per cent of these men usually enlist in the Army and select technical schools, over seas assignments, vocational training within certain fields, or assignments to Airborne duty.
