The Frantzes judged the preceding Pet Show and all Horse Show classes. (Hemmer photo) The Columbia Boys Choir of Princeton, N. J. spent Thanksgiv ing at the Hollywood Hotel. They were accompanied by Headmaster Rhine, who was joined for the weekend by Mrs. Rhine and their children. Dr. and Mrs. Bellanca of Towanda, N. Y. came also to spend the holiday with their son. On Thanksgiving Day, the boys of the choir, led by Mr. Bryant, I gave a small informal concert in the lobby. Other Guests Mrs. J L. Kirkpatrick of Roch- I ester, Vt. is making her annual fall visit. She will leave for Try- on in mid-December. Mr. and Mrs. Robert F. Chandler of New York City are here for a visit, as is Mrs. Ruhe La Vin of Allen town, Pa. ■ Mrs. L. T. C. with Hosts Mrs. Hutaff Speaker At Garden Club Meeting on Monday Paying a visit to Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Ives at Paint Hill Farm this past week has been Mrs. Edward Pryor of Bath, England. Mrs. Pryor, who came over to drop in on Bath, North Carolina, was entertained while here by Mrs. K. N. McColl at a luncheon given at the Shaw House Satur day. The Ives and their guest drove to Winston-Salem Sunday where they spent a night with Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Hanes. While there Mrs. Pryor and her hosts made an intensive tour of the Old Salem restoration. Widely considered one of the finest restoration projects in the nation, the old Moravian settle ment was enthusiastically praised by the visitor from Britain who spoke of it as “a truly unique and beautiful achievement.” Shaw House to Close Till after Christmas Holidays Shaw House closed this week to be reopened after the Christ mas holidays. Ties Order of Day In Par Seekers Event Mrs. Barney Avery won Wed nesday’s Par Seekers tournament, a Substitute Par for Three Worst Holes contest, played at the Southern Pines Country Club. Mrs. Robert Strouse won second prize, on draw, following a three- way tie with Mrs. Charles Paul ■and Mrs. Lament Brown. ' Mrs. Carlos Fry and Mrs. T. C. Worth, Jr. tied for low gross and Mrs. Strouse and Mrs. Fry' tied for low net. Mrs. Fry was uncon tested winner of prize for low putts. In last week’s Blind Holes tour ney, Mrs. C. E. Millspaugh and Mrs. Roy Grinnell tied for first place. The Southern Pines Garden, Club met Monday afternoon at the Bethesda Road home of Mrs. Allan Preyer with President Mrs. Clar ence Von Tacky presiding. A guest of the program com mittee, comprising Mrs. B. F Kraffert and Mrs. L. T. Avery, was Mrs Samuel Hutaff of Fay etteville. Mrs. Hutaff is the daughter of Col. and Mrs. O. A. Dickinson and a sister of Mrs. Hoke Pollock, of Southern Pines. Her discus sion of interpretive flower ar rangements she illustrated by forming arrangements as she talked, using vari-colored scarves to show the importance of back ground in a floral concept. Perhaps her most unusual ef fect Mrs. Hutaff obtained by plac ing red glads in a column in the center of a twisted wisteria bough—the arrangement she titled “Progeny.” The speaker pointed out that the new space concepts made pos sible new ideas of floral decora tions; however, she noted, all are not adaptable to all homes. Each individual, she said, should seek to express her own ideas in creat ing floral arrangements. The Men’s Garden Club, of which John L. Ponzer is presi dent, has-been invited to join the ladies at their December 18 meet ing at Clarendon Gardens where owner, Frank Howe, will show both clubs around his gardens and nijirsery. J. H. Johnsons Move to Hickory Mr. and Mrs. J. Hilbert Johnson recently returned from a five-day visit to San Juan and St. Thomas, where he attended the Southern Furniture Manufacturers Associa tion convention. The Johnsons moved Wednes day to Hickory, where Mr. John son, who has been with the Sand hill Furniture Company of 'West End, is affiliated with the Hick ory Manufacturing Company. The Johnsons have purchased a home in Hickory. Her father, Ralpn Miles, makes his home with them. Their daughter, Karen, is a student at Converse College, Spartanburg, S. C.; son. Cadet Charlies Johnson, attends Har grave Military Academy in Chat ham, Va. Miss Gabrielle Gordon-Mann of j^nollwood and Lt. Nielsen H. Botcher, of Towson, Md., were married Saturday at Emmanuel Episcopal Church. The Rev. Martin Caldwell offi ciated at the 11 a. m. ceremony Mrs. N. L. Hodgkins, Sr. played the organ. fhe bride, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Gordon-Mann of Knollwood, was given in marri age by her father. Her gown of white peau de soie featured a high neck, elbow length sleeves and ended in a chapel train. Her full-length tulle veil depended from a coronet of white feather United Church of mums and her bouquet was of white fuji mums. Miss Patricia Gordon-Mann was her sister’s maid of honor; bridesmaids were Miss Theresa Caffrey of Wilmington, Del., Miss Judy Wicker of McCain and Miss Karen Botcher of Rochester, N. Y., the bridegroom’s sister. The bridesmaids wore full- length gold velvet dresses made like the bride’s, circlets of minia ture bronze-gold feathered mums in their hair, and carried bou quets of larger feathered mums in the same color. He is presently with the Second Division, 87th Infantry, end is stationed at Fort Banning, Ga., where the couple will live. Composed of stu dent members, the Council is thp responsible court in which vio lators of the honor system and campus code are tried. Bob, the son of Superior Court Judge arid Mrs. John D. McCon nell of Country Club Drive, is also a member of the NROTC at the college. Brownie Troops, Garden Clubs, Provide Holiday Decor for Hospital The patients at Moore Memori al Hospital had their trays enliv ened by Thanksgiving decora tions, made by three Brownie Troops. Brownie Troop 40 of Aberdeen, Mrs. Carl Wynn, leader, made turkeys out of pinecones; Troop 102 of Pinehurst, of which Mrs. Arthur Long is the leader, had little decorated cups containing candy and Troop 40 led by Mrs. Ellis Fields, Jr. made napkin holders. Flower decorations were made and given to the Hospital by the Civic Garden Club of Southern Pines, the Aberdeen Home and Garden Club and the Round Rob in Garden Club of Aberdeen. The last-named club presented the arrangement of fruit which dec orated the lobby. BRIDGE - CANASTA A bridge-canasta party, spon sored by the Jr. Woman’s Club, is being held tomorrow (Friday) night at the Southern Pines Coun try Club.
