Brown, former pastor of the Presbyterian church and now pastor of the Bluff Pres byterian Church in Wade, is studying at the Theological Semi nary in Richmond, Va. He is one of 84 Presbyterian ministers se lected for participation in the Tower Room Scholars progranjj^at the Seminary this year. The in tensive study program is designed to bring the. scholars up to date on recent theological develop- mSnts. Mrs. A. H. McCall was elected secretary of the State Farm Bureau Women at the convention held last week in Raleigh. At a congllegational meeting Sunday at the Presbyterian Church, the following deacons were elected; Woodford Sherrill, Mike Lambeth, Elmer Blue and Jim O’Quinn. Robert Henderson spoke to the Men of the Presbyterian Church on Monday evening on “Steward ship.” Raymond Seawell presided at the dinner meeting which was held in the Recreation Hall of the Church. is at home on furlough. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Tucker of Myrtle Beach, S. C., spent the holidays with Oscar Richardson, Jr. Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Graham were in Charlotte with Mr. and Mrs. John Blanchard and W. E. Graham, Jr., on Thursday and Friday. The W. M. Thompsons had a family diner Thanksgiving eve ning, with the following present: Mrs. J. E. Currie, Mrs. Lena Sul livan, the Elmer Blues, and the Joe Currie family of Southern Pines. Mrs. E. R. Outland was the week-end guest of Mrs. J. E. Currie and Mrs. Lena Sullivan. J. W. Williams of Rockingham visit ed in the Currie home on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Suther of Kannapolis spent the holidays at their home here. Miss McDonald Succumbs at 86 CARTHAGE NEWS Miss Sallie Jane McDonald, 86, of Lakeview died Thursday after noon of last week at a Pinehurst nursing ’’home. Funeral services were held Saturday at Lakeview Presbyterian church, conducted by the pastor, the Rev. Dan Nor man, with burial following in Lakeview Cemetery. Miss McDonald was a native of the Lakeview community, a des cendant of the Scottish pioneers who settled it in pre-Revolution- ary days, and had spent most of her life there. Only nieces and nephews survive. Week-end guests of M. A. Clark were Bailey Rich and Virginia and Mack, of Raleigh. Mr. and Mrs. George Shelby of Charlotte spent the holidays at their home here. The special music with all the church choirs, was directed by Mrs. H. J. Hall. The sermon was delivered "by the Rev. Robert Moore of the Methodist Church assisted by the Rev. W. S. Golden, The Rev. Phillips Infant, Of Cameron, Dies Mr. and Euell Glass and chil dren visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Caddell, over the week end. Mrs. Paul Kirkman of Winston- Salem spent the Thanksgiving holidays with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. D. A. McDonald. Joseph Bryan Phillips, 11-week old son of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Phillips of Cameron, died at Lee County Hospital early Monday morning. Funeral services were held at the home at 10:3(> a.m. Tuesday. A second service was held at the Calypso Presbyterian Church at 2 p.m. followed by burial in the Sloan family ceme tery near Calypso. ' Surviving in addition to his parents are one brother, John Phillips of Cameron; one sister, Sallie Phillips of Andrews Col lege, Laurinburg, and the mater nal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. C. L.
