Dougherty, secretary of the Home School Association of St. Anthony’s School, presided at the association’s meeting Wed nesday in the school auditorium. The School Glee Club entertain ed the group, singing several Christmas songs. During the business session, parents volunteered cars to take children in the four upper grades to Raleigh in late January or early February to the Art Museum, the students will hear lectures about the Museum and its collections prior to the visit there. School Principal Sister Cath erine Leonard asked the associa tion for curtains or blinds in the auditorium to darken it for the showing of teaching films. As the School Choir will be singing for the Guild of St. Jo seph’s Hospital at their meeting December 12, parents were asked to volunteer transportation to and from the hospital. Booker, owner of Landscapes nurseries on Midland Road, is the designer of the eye catching abstract flower design that decorates the official posters, stationery and advertising bro- 0}^m'0g of the 1962 Southeastern Flower and Gard-en Show. The show, initiated so success fully last year. Will again be stag ed in Raleigh, in the J. S. Dorton Arena, February 23-27. Richard C. Bell, Raleigh land scape architect, has prepared drawings for the show layout and will coordinat.3 and supervise the installation of 10 large gardens and five smaller ones. On a recent visit with Bill Booker and his wife, Mary Ellen, Mr. Bell was so impressed with Bill’s design—an eight-petalled yellow daisy-like flower roughed out in bold abstract lines—that he adopted it as a “hallmark” to appear on the show’s advertising nfiedia. Landscapes will again this year have displays in the Southeastern Flower and Garden Show. “Holiday House” to Be Shown in Hamlet December 9 and 10 The Hamlet Junior Woman’s Club will present its annual “Holi day House” December 9 and 10. This year, the club has chosen the home of Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Phifer of 301 Hylan Avenue, Hamlet. New and traditional Christmas aecorations will be used through- '^ut the Phifer residence. In ad dition to holiday ideas, members will offer a number of gifts, in cluding cookies and candies for sale. Refreshments will be served. Modernistic Panel At Library Is Work Of Jane LaMarche Assistant Librarian Jane La Marche has created a most effec tive panel, designed to draw the attention of patrons and visitors of the Southern Pines Library to its selection of Christmas books, displayed on a small table to the right of the front door. The flat panel above the table i is of emerald* green laminated foil and is centered by a sty lized three-dimensional Christ mas tree made of inch-wide spir als of the same color foil with royal blue on the inverse side. Difficult to describe, but worth a visit to the Library to see. Two Holiday Balls Scheduled for Before Christmas Season Two big pre-Christmas dances are listed on the social calendar m the next two weeks; both to take place at the National Guard Arm ory. The “1961 Holiday Ball” sched uled for December 16, is sponsor ed by the Moore County Young Democrats and will have the Bass Orchestra to play for the dancers. Tables will be reserved on re quest. A ball for the benefit of the Little League Baseball project is set for the night of December 21. District Nine VFW And Auxiliary Enjoy Christmas Party Here The VFW, John Boyd Post 7318, and its Auxiliary, were hosts to District Nine Saturday at a Christmas party at the Post Home. The local Post served barbe cued chicken and ham to 225 members attending from South- lern Pines and other towns of the District, including Rockingham, Laurinburg, Wadesboro, East Laurinburg, Hamlet, Mt. Gilead and Troy. Don Madigan of Southern Pines was in charge of the program. District Nine Commander Charles Kelly, of Sanford, was presented a briefcase and the lo cal Post Commander, Hubert Cameron, received an electric razor. Mrs. L. W. Tagge of Hamlet, District Nine Auxiliary president, was given an evening bag, and Miss Louise Crain, president of the Southern Pines Auxiliary, also received an evening bag. The Bob Bass Combo played music for dancing, which was en joyed by members following the buffet.
