Man Terrorizes
Family, is Sent
Back to Hospital
An Aberdeen Negro went ber
serk and kept several members
of his family terrified for several
hours last Thursday, with hatch
ets and knives, till officers sized
him at the home in Berkley and
took him to Aberdeen jail.
He was Lonnie Taylor, 41, who
had recently been released from
a state mental hospitcd at Golds
boro. Brought into Aberdeen court
Friday morning, he was deter
mined by Judge J. G. Farrell to
be mentally unable to stand trial,
and wais re-committed and re
turned to the hospital.
The capture was made by As
sistant Chief D. M. Winfree with
Officer William H. Jackson, State
Trooper R. R. Samuels and ABC
Officer Edward Floyd of Aber
deen.
Winfree said the man had cor
nered his mother, brother, sister,
brother-in-law and a young ne
phew in the house during the
afternoon, frightening them! with
death threats and brandishing his
weapons, which, however, he did
not use. About 9 p.m., the brother
slipped out and sought help from
the police.
