Starring Carroll Baker and the Hawaiian-born Nisei actor, James Shigeta, the Cite Films Produc tion, released by Metro-Goldwyn- Mayer, is based on the highly- oraised autobiography by Gwen Terasaki, the Tennessee girl who met and fell in love with the young Japanese diplomat, Hide- nari (“Terry”) Teraski, married him and went to live with him in Japan after the outbreak of World War II. The picture describes with ac curacy and compassion the extra ordinary experiences of the couple and Mako, their little daughter. Gwen (Carroll Baker) is torn be tween devotion to her Japanese husband and loyalty to her own country. Terry (James Shigeta) hopes towards the fulfillment of r “rainbow across the Pacific,” a bridge of peace between Japan and the United States. Since ‘‘Bridge to the Sun” was filmed largely on locations in Japan, its scenes have a breath taking beauty as well as realism. Much of the footage was shot in Kyoto, the seat of Japanese cul ture, where the architecture shrines and general atmosphere bespeak the Japan of another era Mr. and Mrs. C. W.
