Poole Honored
Hawley Poole was honored ai
the annual meeting of the State
Soil and Water Conservation Su
pervisors meeting on Tuesday and
Wednesday in Goldsboro. Haw
ley has served on the Board of
Directors since it was organized
in 1938 and has also served as its
president. In recognition for his
. service? rendered he received a
20 year pin.
Donkey Basketball
The Lions are ready to accept
the challenge by the Future
Farmers for a Donkey Basketball
game on Saturday night according
to Lions’ Coach J. F. Sinclair.
Ready to ride and to play for the
Lions are Captain Tommy Mc
Neill, Sammy Hill, Clyde and
Earl Auman, Billy McKenzie,
Dick Dickerson, Roy Swaringen,
D^ L. Ritter, Jr., and Coach Sin
clair will ride if necessary. Don’t

at the school gym at 7 o’clock.
Council Conference
Attending a conference of the
Council of the Federated Woman’s
Club of ten Southeastern states
held last week at the Carolina
Hotel in Pinehurst were Miss
Grace Donaldson and Mrs. Archie
Farmer. Mrs. M. C. McDonald, Jr.,
who is serving as District Chair
man of the Fine Arts Department,
attended the Directors’ meeting on
Tuesday night.
Youth Federation *
George Gray McDonald of the
Jacl^son Springs Presbyterian
Youth Fellowship was elected
president of the Youth Federa
tion at the meeting on Sunday
night at the Methodist Church. To
serve with him are; Rick Lewis,
vice-president, and Gail Garrison,
secretary-treasurer. The Metho
dist Youth Fellowship presented
a program at the meeting with
the following members participa
ting: Libba and William Johnson,
Helen Hanner, Sharon Richard
son, Vernon Sutphin, Linda Wil
liams, and organist, Mrs. W. A
Johnson Jr. Serving the group re
freshments following the meet
ing were Mrs. A. J. Hanner and
Mrs. E. L Sutphin
WSCS Circles
The Circles of the Methodist
Women met on Monday evening
with each Circle having, a pro
gram on “Alcohol and the Chris
tian’s Responsibility.”
Mrs. A. J. Hanner was hostess
to the Minnie Morris Circle. Mrs.
T. J. Fletcher gave a devotional
and Mrs. Hanner presented the
program.
The Margaret Brown Circle met
with Mrs. J. F. Sinclair. Mrs.
Fred Monroe gave a devotional
and Mrs. Paul VonCanon present
ed the program assisted by Mrs
Lynn Mclnnis, Mrs. F. S. Currie,
Mrs. Lee Sutphin, and Mrs. Tom
Lewis.
Presbyterian Women
The Circles of the Presbyterian
Women of the Church met on
Monday night with each circle
having a Bible study from the
Book of James on “Partners” and
a program on “Christian Action.”
Mrs. Roy Carter was hostess to
Circle 1. Mrs. Bert McCrummen
gave the Bible study and Mrs.
Tom McNeill had the program.
Circle 2 met with Miss Treva
Auman with Miss Grace Donald
son serving as moderator of the
Eible study.
Mrs. Z. B. Conrad was hostess
to Circle 3. Mrs. Clyde Auman
presented the Bible study and
Mrs. Everette Cole gave the pro
gram.
Brief Mention
The Intermediate and Junior
Choirs of the Methodist Church
sang “God of Our Fathers” and
a New Year’s anthem, “Our God,
Our Help in Ages Past,” at the
Sunday morning worship service.

A baby girl, Lisa Kay, was born
last Sunday to Mr. and Mrs. Rich
ard Parsons of Candor at High
Point Memorial Hospital. Mrs.
Parsons is the former Miss Pa

Mrs. M. J. Davis is delighted
over the birth of her new grand
son, Nathaniel Macon Hammer, in
Greensboro on January 5. A di
rect descendant of the statesman,
this little boy was especially wel
comed since he makes four grand
sons and four granddaughters for
Mrs. Davis. Mrs. John Doeringer,
the former Miss Mary Jo Davis,
arrived by plane in Greensborr
from her nome in Park Forest, Ill
on 'Thursday to welcome her new
nephew. Mrs. Doeringer will va
cation here for two weeks with
her mother and will then be ioin-
ed by her husband. The Doerin-
gers have a new house located in
a suburban section of Chicago,
and to make a childhood dream
come true, Mrs. Doeringer receiv
ed a Steinway baby grand piano
for Christmas.
Mr. and Mrs. Elvin Jackson of
Carthage were Sunday dinner
guests of his parents, Mr. and
Mrs. W. E. Jackson honoring Bill
on his birthday.
Mrs. E. R. Outland visited with
Mrs Claude Burkhead in Candor
last week. On Tuesday Mrs. Out
land, Mrs. Burkhead, and Mrs.
Path Harmon were dinner guests
of the G. A. Munns in Richfield.
Bob Youngblood, formerly of
this community and now of Char
lotte, had surgery last week at
Presbyterian Hospital in Char
lotte.

College was home with her par

Mr. and Mrs. Jim Prim arriv
ed for a visit with her parents,
Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Fletcher, on
Saturday. Jim left on Sunday, and
Mrs. Prim expects to remain here
for about two weeks. Jim went on
a trip connected with his work
with the government.
