THEATRE Climaxing her meteoric rise to stardom, Diane McBain is cast in the title role of Warner Bros.’ production of Erskine Caldwell’s “Claudelle Inglish,” opening Sun day at the Sunrise Theatre, op posite Arthur Kennedy, Con stance Ford, Will Hutchins and Claude Akins. Miss McBain stars as the beautiful daughter of a tenant farmer who brings tragedy to her neighbors, her family and herself with her wanton behavior after she has been jilted by the young man to whom she was en gaged. Produced by Leonard Freeman, who also wrote the screenplay, “Claudelle Ingish” was directed by Gordon Douglas and filmed near Stockton, California, where the terrain approximated that o^ the original Georgia setting of the story. Caldwell is America’s best-sell ing author. More copies of his books—“Claudelle Ingish” was his 37th novel—have been sold than those of any other author. Director Gordon Douglas fle^- in a southern accent for Miss Mc Bain during the filming of thr picture. The accent came in the form of an hour tape of a conver sation between a Georgia lawyer, a woman bank clerk and a libra rian. The tape was designed as e guide to assure an authpn+' southern accent for Miss McBain, who also worked with Ken Rose; a dialogue director specializing in southern accents. 10 Hunters, 112 Hounds Bag 10 Foxes on Coast Long Beach on the North Car olina coast is a long distance to go for a fox hunt but the 10 hunt ers from Vass, Carthage, Sanforr’ and Bear Creek produced evi dence that their recent two-day venture was- a success. Ten gray foxes were brough: home from only seven hours of chase. The hunters, accompanied by 112 Walker hounds, were Dar rell Matthews, Calvin Blue, Tom my Richardson, Raymond Elkins, Arthur Bridges, Hubert Womack, William Blue, W. L. Walker to Speak At High Point Meeting Saturday Local American Legion and Legion Auxiliary officials today reminded members of their organ izations and other interested per sons that the North Carolina Chapter of the National Indigna tion Convention will hold a state wide meeting at the high school auditorium in High Point, Satur day, January 20, at 7 p. m. Major Gen. Edwin A. Walker, who resigned from the Army ir: a controversy over troop educa tion programs, will be the featur ed speaker. There is no admission charge. The National Indignation Con vention, which originated in Dal las, Texas, is planning to sponsor state-wide meetings in all states of the nation Saturday, to protest the sale of war materials to Com munist countries, according to the local announcement. Legion officials said that a Le gion convention will be held a- Winston-Salem Saturday.
