McGoogan and Mrs. R. M McMillan. Neighbor Aid Administration Alan A. McDonald, chairman, T T. Prickett and Duncan L. Me Googan. Grover C. Gunter, Former Aberdeen Resident, Dies Grover C. Gunter, who spent most of his life in Aberdeen, died in the VA hospital in Oteer Thursday, January 11 at the age of 77. Born in Chatham County, son of E. W. and Susan Howard Gun ter, he moved with his parents to Aberdeen when a boy when the town was still called “Blue’s Crossing.” In Aberdeen he learned the printing trade, working in the print shop of the Aberdeen Tele gram owned by a Mr. Fagan. He also worked in the Aberdeen post office before volunteering for service in World War I, being a member of the Air Corps and serving overseas. In the early 1940’s he went to Biloxi, Mississippi to accept a position with the Wilkes Printing Companir where he had previous ly worked. In 1945 he became a patient a', the VA hospital in Oteen where he remained until his death last week. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at Gum Springs Haptist Church, between Mon- cui^ and Pittsboro in Chatham County, with burial in the church cemetery. A sister. Miss Bess Gunter of Aberdeen, is the only immediate survivor. Funeral Held fur Mrs. Odom., 75, Moore Co. Native Funeral services were held at Bensalem Presbyterian Church near Eagle Springs Wednesday afternoon for Mrs. Marjorie Mon roe Odom, 75, Moore County na tive who died Monday at ter home in Gainesville, Fla. Rev B. D. Graybeal, pastor of the church, officiated. Burial was ir the church cemetery. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs Laura Gaulding of Miami, Fla.^ Visters Mrs. E. P. Yager of Baltimore,’Md., Mrs. ^.^’Q^nn of Gainesville, Fla., Miss Monroe of Southern Pines, Mvs. A M Diggs of' Charlotte, Mrs. A Pattefson of West End and Mrs F. D. Enney of Portsmouth, Va -'four brothers, Fullar and Al len Monroe, both of Route 1, Bis- coe, T. Guy Monroe of and Dr. Robert F. Monroe of Louis ville, Ky.; and two granddaugh ters. Restoration of Lake Toxaway in Western North Carolina, open ing the Spooner’s Creek development near Morehead City, and expansion of Tranquil Har bor on the southeastern coast headlined extensive new resort developments in 1961. Planning was advanced for a new resort hotel at Wrightsville Beach and new convention buildings at Nags Head and Carolina Beach.
