Smith of the Vass Volunteer Fire Department has announced that two films on “Fire Fighting Equipment” and "Fire Prevention,” will be shown at the Vass Fire Station, which is located at the Town Hall, on Tuesday night, February 6. The public is invited. WSCS General Meeting The Woman’s Society of Chris tian Service of the Vass'Methodist Church met in the church fellow ship hall Monday night, January 22, for their general meeting with Circle 1 as hostess. Mrs. H. M. 1 Klingenschmidt presided and led the devotional. Mrs. David Moe, program leader, presented the program which concerned the church-wide study on “Alcohol and Christian Responsibility.” Those taking parts in a playlet were: Mrs. Moe, Mrs. S. R. Smith, Mrs. James Hudson, and Mrs. James Key. Refreshments were served to the 19 members present At Camporee Vass Boy Scout Troop 810, with their Scoutmaster, Cecil Rowell, • assistant master, Ed Parker, and former Scoutmaster Karl Schweinfurth, who is in charge of local scout activity, enjoyed the County Camporee at Camp Snow flake, near West End during the weekend. Missionary Society Meets The Children’s Missionary So ciety of the Vass Methodist Church met Sunday afternoon at the church with their co-leaders, Mrs. Horace Mullinix and Mrs Charles Cameron. A continued study on South America, with the emphasis on “Chile’,’ was pre sented. Carol Klingenschmidt presided and conducted a busi ness period. Linda K. Frye was in charge of the devotional. Mrs. Mullinix read a continued chap ter from the study book “Three Children of Chile.” Mrs. Cameron led the closing prayer. Refresh ments were' served to the 1" mernbers present by Mrs. Mulli nix. Teachers Attend Meeting The Vass-Lakeview High School was well represented at the NC EA-NEA Area Conference, which was held Monday afternoon and evening at the East Montgomery High School, located between Candor and Biscoe. Teachers at tending were: Miss Nannie Gil christ, Miss Mildred Womble. Mrs, R. A. Evans, Mrs. P. A. Wiison, Mrs. A. L. O’Briant, Mrs. W. A, Muse, Miss Louise Leslie and Principal John McCrummen Skating Party The Senior Class of the Vass- Lakeview High School was enter tained at a skating party at Thur- low’s Skating Rink last Tuesdaf- night by their class sponsor, Mrs W. E. Gladstone. Refreshments of cake, soft drinks, and potato chips were served by the hostess to the 28 members present. Personals Miss Agnes Boggs, accompanied Mrs. Lula Hennings to the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Dick Slack and daughter of Smithfield for a weekend visit. Miss Jeanette Mullinix, fresh man at Woman’s College, who has been here with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Horace Mullinix during a semester break from college vis ited with Mr. and Mrs. Worth Davis, in Ophir, Saturday after noon. Miss Ann Edwards of Pfeiffer College is spending a few days here with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. G. Edwards, Jr. Mr. and Mrs. Wiliford Lassiter and sons spent the weekend with her parents, Mr., and Mrs. F. D. Solomon and her brother and sis ter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Laverne Solomon and family in Concord Mrs. W. J. Morgan and Miss Carol Foster attended a tea hon oring Miss Margaret Dunn at the home of Mrs. Francis Pleasants ir. Aberdeen Saturday afternoon. Mrs. Steve Mallard of Wallace and Mrs. Bob Perry of Raleigh visited in the home of their aunt, Miss Bessie Cameron the latter part of last week and visited wtih their mother, Mrs. W. H. Keith who is a patient at St. Joseph’s Hospital. Henry Klingenschmidt was re cently honored at a family birth day supper at his home. Guests included his brother, sisters, nieces and nephews. Mrs. W.
